Was bid up to $1525.00 before going poof...
A couple of key "attribution points":
Bidders obviously didn't try to attribute the variety before bidding ...
These are one of the "gifts that just keep giving"- my prior Coin Week article on these is at https://coinweek.com/counterfeits/struck-counterfeit-coins-a-family-of-struck-fake-draped-bust-dollars/
Best, Jack.

It makes you wonder why anyone would ever consider bidding that amount on a raw dollar type that is known to be a favorite of counterfeiters.
No reason to wonder. They'd do it because they're unknowledgeable and thinking/hoping they'd be getting a bargain.

Easy to spot if you know what to look for. Thanks to the OP and this website, the information is available. Unfortunately, a lot of people have more money than sence...
Successful BST transactions with: SilverEagles92; Ahrensdad; Smitty; GregHansen; Lablade; Mercury10c; copperflopper; whatsup; KISHU1; scrapman1077, crispy, canadanz, smallchange, robkool, Mission16, ranshdow, ibzman350, Fallguy, Collectorcoins, SurfinxHI, jwitten, Walkerguy21D, dsessom.
This example in particular is an easy to spot counterfeit, even without the diagnostics. But there are certainly other counterfeits where your statement is correct.
