Aside from a dime...

is there any extra value to one of these? This is my first, do they happen very often?

Never saw that before but I'm not a collector of these modern mint sets.

Not the first I've seen. Might be collectible to someone.

I’m not either, I just like to bust them open and have them graded. Obviously nothing worth grading here so I don’t want to open this one. Maybe I’ll throw the set on eBay auction and just see what happens.

Oh wait a minute! Was there supposed to be a half dollar in the middle slot where the plastic piece is?

I remembered seeing something similar previously. So I went looking. Here is one:

Apparently jmlanzaf (post 7) has a pile of similar errors coming to eBay. (April 19 so can you beat him to it)

Id sell it to him but that cheap bastage wouldn’t give me five dollars for it, lol

It looks like the half was only in the denver set.

I've seen that before as well, no extra premium in my eyes, I might pay a little extra for a proof set with a double coin somewhere but not a mint set, it is interesting though :)

There are lots of various types of packaging errors in the entire run of mint sets but especially the early dates. More than .1% probably. There are also various different types of packaging affecting large numbers of sets.

I've run into very few collectors of these however.

The most interesting I ever heard of was a 1970 Philly package with a SD cent included with the dime, a SD cent for the San Francisco slot, and a SD cent instead of a Philly in that slot. The single most common error is the 1980 set with a Denver quarter instead of a Denver dollar. I found one set with a Gem in this slot so actually came out ahead. ;)
