I knew NGC and ICG did this. I am surprised PCGS has started to do this too.

    Why would that surprise you?

I wouldn't have a problem with it either way. But I think this is just a generic BU slab commonly found from telemarketers and wholesalers serving larger non-numismatic customers.

I don't like that the numerical code before the cert number has 000000.70/
That .70 on other pcgs slabs represents the numerical grade.
I think it would be better with .00 or something.

Alright. It wasn't terrible, just surprising. I wasn't aware PCGS graded coins without a numerical grade.

Brilliant marketing but I would prefer Flashy Gem on the slab

    Hmmm?
I thought you were speaking of the, "Last Year of Issue", phrase?
    Haven't seen this on PCGS.

When I search the PCGS database I get this:

The PCGS #26631491 is not a valid US coin number.

Yup, the cert number doesn't check out. Seems odd.

Thinking about it after you posted, this makes sense since it has no valid pcgs coin # 000000
Is this the sample slab number also 000000?

    Still don't like the .70

Maybe it's just a dummy number. Here are two more dollars, now on eBay. No numbers.

The pre-2010 slabs don't seem to have cert numbers.

I bought these simply for the artist's signatures. Which were hand signed, not lithograph copies. You can not add non-numerical graded coins to your registry, though.

    @jmlanzaf
Both of those examples have the pcgs coin #
Whereas the OP has a 000000
I think the 000000 is why it is not a valid cert #
    But not positive

I'm making no comment on the OPs coin. It could just be a fake number on the slab. Some people don't like to show the actual slab #.

Ah, that makes sense and explains the .70
    I just couldn't understand that.

What exactly is the "this" that they have done?

Slabbed a coin without a numerical grade? If that's it, then it just means that someone - probably a retailer or marketer - paid them a reduced amount fie this lower level of grading.

Actually, I am wondering if this is a service that should be more widely available. It would basically be an authentication service. The buyer and seller could determine the grade. If it were cheap enough I think this option would be very popular.

Well put. I've mentioned this as a suggestion on the sports card side.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that designation has been on slabs for years, PCGS included.

    At least since 2005.

Love the simplicity of PCGS slab. The 1921 Morgan is very nice too.

I believe that the SSCA horseman medals were encapsulated without a grade or cert number.
