    Machine doubling. Not the DDO.

Looks like machine doubling.... Does not match the listed example. Cheers, RickO

This is the DDO #3, nice catch! I've pulled a few of these myself, along with several of the other minor DDO's from 1972. They're still out there!

I stand corrected. Do the major grading services recognize this variety? If they don't slab this variety with this variety noted on the slab label, I would think its value would be very limited.

I'll ask again. Do the major grading services recognize this variety for listing it on the label?

PCGS will recognize all 9 DDOs for the date. There have been 540 of the OPs variety certified at PCGS. I assume NGC will also recognize them.

Nice one! If it wasn't for the "big one" these minor yet still strong doubled dies would be much more popular.
A bit surprised by the MD auto-responses. This is a very obvious doubled die.
Did you get this in change or from roll hunting?

It doesn't have a lot of value, but it is very collectable. I doubt it would be worth slabbing, but it is nicer than a lot of the 1990's DDOs.

I'm not. I'm only surprised that someone didn't show up to call the OP an idiot and tell them to do more research.

In all fairness, it does have some of the hallmarks of MD. Some of the letters look sheared and the width of some of the primary characters looks thin.

But I'm happy to hear that it is a DD.

Very nice find, congrats! While not the big one both 002 and this 003 still have some very nice pronounced doubling. :)

Nice find. If graded, it would probably get the coveted "MS60RD" ;)

Very Nice pictures. I have a 1972 Penny I also have a 1972 S penny that looks like it was eaten by an animal. So sad.
