Coin Spam and Robocalls!

Had a new experience today. I don't normally pick up unrecognized numbers, but did today as I was awaiting another call. When I answered there was the typical telemarketer delay in responding, and I should have hung up immediately but thought I might at least figure out what kind of spam I'm on the list for.
Turns out, the guy was selling coins! I was pretty surprised. He had a pitch stating its been a long time since we've talked (100% certain we have never spoken). And they just bought a million dollar estate deal in Greenwich CT, (sounds fancy!) and said he had gem bu rolls of peace dollars to sell, and do I know what those are?
I just said I'm not interested and hung up.
Anyone else get cold calls for coins? This was a first for me! Seems scammy/suspicious.

I got a cold call from a major coin seller that you all would recognize the name, just yesterday.
They were looking to buy error coins from me at wholesale
And also wanted to know if I buy error coins (from them) and I said yes, at wholesale
We did not do any business but did connect
Sounds like yours was specific to your business - my call seemed like a call center marketing operation probably received by hundreds (thousands?) of other random people.

I got a call recently that had an ID of "COINS". But I screen everything, and just passed it off as another SPAM / robo-call. It was from a 952 area code, which I think is Minnesota, but could be spoofed anyway.
Also screened and passed on.
Also got some call from "PCG" (-no "S").
Thats the closest I've come.
I somehow got on the call list of a slimy, aggressive east coast dealer. Every time I talked with him I left with a strong desire to wash my hands & take a shower. He finally went on my blocked caller list.
I get so many robocalls per day from car warranty companies, Medicare subs, Social Security updates that I quit a year ago, answering any unfamiliar number. All of my family, friends and business contacts that matter to me have an id voice with the number and if the missed call is important they will leave a message,if not, then must not be important. I don't believe in Dialing for Dollars, so not important.

I received the same call last month.
I had some extra time and decided to have some fun.
The caller mentioned their “top” graders. I attempted to find out if they had ever worked for either of the top TPG’s.
Next on to pricing. I asked if they used any of the recognized pricing guides. He asked which one I was referring to and I mentioned the Redbook to which he responded the OFFICIAL Redbook. Great I said and asked if he had one handy. He responded affirmatively and I asked what year to which he responded 2022 of course. I then informed him the 2023 had just arrived but I could work with his old copy. I instructed him to turn to page 7, the contributors page. I asked if any of his “experts” were listed there. No, he told me but then stated, “I guess your going to tell me you are”. Right was my response but that did not deter his sales pitch. On he went offering me the hand picked choice BU rolls of MS63-64 coins that were “ALL MADE FOR DIGNITARIES”! Wow! I asked him to refer back to his book to identify which 22 million dignitaries were awarded the coins.
There he finally gave up.
The best 5 minutes I spent that afternoon.
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

Got one a few years ago from THE major auction company, looking to buy my coins. Wasn't interested.
Did get an email from paypal (NOT) saying my account was frozen.
I went to my paypal account, logged in and everything is fine

I get 15-20 spam calls a day.... Most are blocked by my phone, but some get through. Of the ones that get through, none have been selling coins, though I usually do not give them a chance to talk. Mostly wanting to give me a new warranty on my car (a 2004 Jeep Wrangler).
Cheers, RickO
SPAM seems to be getting out of control again. I apparently win many, many email contests each day ... and then there are the phone calls that start with a "boink" sound. I have no idea what they are since I quickly hang up.
That "boink" sound is a warning that you're about to be boinked.

They "Spoof" numbers to look like it is local call sometimes business numbers, waiting on a call from Doctors office so I answered, First thing I heard was "Hi Grandpa" hung up right away. none of my grandkids ever called me that!
If I have time I answer and have a little fun. I've become quite proficient at swearing in Hindi. And they all seem to have American names. Ben is my favorite, since Ben Code is a pretty good phonetic of ****** ****** in Hindi.
For some reason, they all hang up on me. And then call back ten minutes later.
I've also been called by Ben. His last name was Dover.

@What's WRONG with all you guys?? I've been trying to call all of you!! Haven't spoke to y'all in quite awhile but boy if you knew the be-a-u-tiful coins I've got to sell you, you really don't want to miss this opportunity!!! Blast white and never circulated found in an underground bank vault. Do you know what blast means? C'mon Grandpa, don't hang up. I've got rolls!! You know what rolls are? Hello? Hello??
As soon as I receive my reward from that Nigerian prince I helped out, I'll give you a call back, OK?
Are you still listed in the book as "Internal Revenue Services"?
But I was assured that Only I could help the Nigerian Prince and his gratitude would know no boundaries.
That was back around the turn of the century, 02-03. Still waiting but I was told that shipping the amount of gratitude I was to receive, would take some time 😉🙀🦫

Sounds similar to a call Ben The Coin Geek received last year; they were trying to sell BU Morgans.
I'd recommend listening to the 5 minute mark, that's when the real high pressure sale attempt happens:
I've taken to picking up the phone (the landline) but not saying anything. Many of the sales calls get routed once you day "Hello", and even register what language you answer in.
If it is a legitimate call then the person will offer a confused "Hello?" when encounter with silence.
