Is This 1868 Shield Nickel A Doubled Die??

It looks to me like it is however I can’t find anything similar looking through CoinFacts. It looks like split serifs to me on all the letters of IGWT as well as the arrowheads.

It appears to be.
Looks like one to me.

Yep! There are a lot of doubled dies on shield nickels.
Looks like it to me too. I belive that @howards may be of assistance.

It is. Check the reverse. If United States shows doubling also, it is listed as FS-05-1868-105. It is a very sought after double die.
There are 2 coins shown on PCGS CoinFacts for FS-105.

The EF-45 shows some doubling on TRUST, STATES, and CENTS, although it might be machine doubling.
The VF-30 shows some doubling on STATES.
Neither shows the arrow split tip doubling or the TRUST split tip doubling as shown in @Rob41281's photos.
The CoinFacts coins might be misattributed, though.
NCG Variety Plus does not have photos for FS-105, just a written description.
It does have enlarged photos of 13 different 1868 DDO varieties.
It is the best online resource for this that I have seen,
yet it does not have photos for an 1868 DDO variety that matches yours.

@howards
Howard's site has a table that lists counts for different 1868 DDOs by ID number,
but no photos or descriptions, other than codes like 14-O-IV .
Howard's ID system uses S1-10xx for DDOs and S1-70xx for DDO+DDR for 1868 rev 67,
so he lists about 41 different DDOs (S1-1000 to S1-1040) and about 9 DDO+DDR combinations for 1868 rev 67.
For 1868 rev 68, the variety numbers are S2-10xx and S2-70xx,
with about 20 different DDOs and one DDO+DDR combo.

@Rob41281 - can you tell us if your coin has the reverse of 67 or 68?
1. Reverse of 1867 - star above center of 5 points to E
2. Reverse of 1868 - star above center of 5 points to S
That certainly appears to be a doubled die.... Nice find. Cheers, RickO
Absolutely a doubled die. There are many doubled dies in the Shield series.
Nice coin!

@yosclimber I believe this is the reverse of 67?

Yes, definitely.
Thanks for posting the reverse photo.
This will make it possible for someone who knows the 1868 rev 67 DDOs better to
identify if it is a known variety.
Yup definitely! Shield Nickel DDOs are usually very visible on the ring on top of the shield.

That’s what I’ve noticed doing research but this one doesn’t have any.
