The 8 Presidents Medal by William Henry Bridgens

I'm a big fan of William Henry Bridgens and this may be his largest medal.

I found the following interesting regarding this the restrikes.

Has anyone seen this paired with the 1856 James Buchanan medal? Is the other side also by Bridgens?

    Here the Buchanan campaign medal that is in question, The dies for both sides were made by William Key of Philadelphia.

    The rebus "buck - cannon" obverse was married to the eight presidents reverse. According to DeWitt / Sullivan, the eight presidents variety was made in the 1860s, well after the 1856 election.

    Both of the "buck - cannon" with either reverse are rare and expensive (Close to $2,000 ten years ago, maybe more now.). I have chances to buy the piece with the eight presidents, but never pulled the trigger because of their "restrike" sort of status.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    @BillJones .... Thanks Bill. I was just curious, not that I had seen or heard of any. Seems something like that might have been done in silver for presentation to donors or influential politicians. Cheers, RickO
