Agreed with all that this is obviously post-Mint damage and that it might have been intended as jewelry before being abandoned.

  • Does anyone mind if I defend myself?

  • More likely my position on the matter?

  • Is that helpful?

You coin is damaged and not a die cap.

Listen to the experts, do not argue with them.

A die cap looks nothing like your coin.

Welcome to the forum. Go to the following page and you will see most likely every type of die capped coinage. Note that ALL have flat bottoms, no convex bottoms. Think about it with the die striking with the coin remaining on it, only a flat service could result. My opinion. Good luck hunting.

We're still waiting for the 'defense' and the 'position' of the OP

The photo of the nice Deep 1998 Die Cap Cent isn't either one.

Very true. I’ve been cuffed. Definitely a process for making links or jewelry.

Found this video that proves you’re right. My “cuffkin” bad.

See, it doesn't hurt. We've all been there. Just remember it as a learning experience and realize all are here to help you, even though you may not think so at the time.

Yep... PMD... I have one almost identical... The experts here will always give you the proper diagnosis.... They are not being mean, just truthful and accurate. Cheers, RickO
