Would YOU go to this? your opinion please
Would you go to a 6pm to 9pm buffet dinner, a 30 minute coin talk, then followed by a small bourse with say 10-20 dealers each with a small case of Newps (new coin purchases) Say on a Thursday evening? What would you be willing to pay $25?
Trying to get thoughts on a new twist to coin shows.... The event would be limited to between 50-100 people

I would no question about it. I think there's a fair price for the food to begin with. And then you could have a coin talk and look at a small case of newps with fellow collectors.

If it was a decent meal and some worthy vendors I would do it in a flash and be tickled for the opportunity. In the 70's and 80's these were going on all the time. Miss those days.

At some point I have to get off eBay and the mint website. $25 sounds fine but I’m a $100 at the most buyer and would like that to be several items. I can live with changes to those things but I think I might represent a group of collectors who are learning enough to want a quality item and understand what is being said to me by a seller. Is this rarified air or will there be a place at the table for me. Thanks Jzyskowski

If it was local, and I knew some of the dealers and/or some other people that were attending, I’d give it a try. Sounds almost like a cross between a coin club meeting and a mini-coin show.

I have spent a lot more than $25 to fly to and stay the night at a members only show, which includes drinks, dessert, lunch, etc. $25 for a show in driving distance would be great!

Back when the pandemic was at it's peak in 2020, went for one such show at the American Legion Post a few towns over where the food was pizza slices and sodas available for purchase and befriended a young freelance dealer who has no online presence but was instrumental in my finding quite a few tough coins in lower grades.
So yeah, probably would do it if local.0 -
Not something that I could see working in my area just not enough dealers to do such a thing; its difficult enough to get 30-40 together for the monthly show as is. And while I have no issues or concerns about covid, the one concern I do have is if the coin prices would be jacked to the moon and make it all just a window shopping exercise.

I would be interested in the half hour talk and mini show. The food….if buffet or low nutritional, isn’t that attractive to me, I can handle that myself. As a promoter, the food gets complicated with allergies and requests trying to have something for everyone. Choose a venue near a family restaurant and let them handle that piece and keep your focus on coins! My opinion, you asked.

This sounds sort of like the reverse of a big show, but with capped attendance. At a big show you go for the show, and then stick around for the talks if you're interested (I realize some may take place while the bourse is open). It's really a question of why people are going. I don't care about the dinner so that isn't a selling point. If I'm interested in the talk, then I could be okay going and sticking around for the mini show. If I just want to go to the show, having some amount of time up front where I'm not at the show isn't a selling point.
Once you cap attendance, you face the issue of needing an audience that wants everything. If some aren't interested in the show, they'll leave early. If some aren't interested in the talk, they'll come late or not at all. Big shows work because there are enough people interested in some or all activities that everything is well attended. Something small like this could end up with one part having limited attendance, and this is the type of event where appearance does matter.

Why not have a brochure(can be made on a computer at a very little expense) saying what type of dealers and the expected inventories would be available. Immediately, I can hear some saying that would be crazy to let thieves know what was happening and that would be possible, but if kept in the community I think that could be overridden. The first one might not be to everyone's taste, but as both the attendees and the sellers get together and communicate wants, needs and collecting niches it will improve. I would definitely vote to give it a chance. Not likely to happen near me, but for the collecting world I think it would be beneficial.

I might try it once. I don't know if I'm a big fan of paying to go to a place where I'm expected to buy stuff. Buffets aren't really my thing. Being trapped in a place for 2-3 hours isn't really my thing. After sitting through 30 years of school and 40 hours of CME each year, it has to be a pretty darn interesting talk to be better than no talk at all.
I'm guessing if this was a good model it would already be working somewhere.....

I am a social animal, I enjoy talking coins with dealers and collectors. I think attending local coin shows or club meetings kinda accomplishes this idea. Yes, I'd try the event you described. Peace Roy

No. The caliber of dealers would matter to me as to whether they would have inventory that I'd want. They aren't going to fly into a show this small with this little attendance.
I think the best small show format is the Las Vegas PCGS Invitational. Edited to add - plus it's a destination city for many.

It sounds more like a coin club show with a twist. It might be interesting to see what happens. Depending on your location would probably determine if it would be worth it or not.

The PCGS Members Shows has buffet food and a small bourse. No talk thank goodness. ( unless JD is there and then it's a treat). The PCGS Shows work great because it's in Vegas, the dealers are top notch and there is usually lot viewing and a Legend auction one night. I don't think this works most places and no way are you getting enough coin collectors to pony up $25 for a local show IMHO

I'm glad someone is thinking about new approaches to coin shows and meetings. The hobby needs that. This format doesn't appeal to me, but it sounds like it does to others.

Recently quit a "Coin Club" where there would be cocktails, dinner and a talk. Some talks were good. No mini-bourse.
Finally realized that members I liked I would see regularly at the show and was therefor paying good money to have dinner with people I didn't like.
Not sure if this would be different.

I would go depending on how local it is and the content of the talk.
If the talk was historical or otherwise educational, that would be interesting. If it were on some variety minutia of a specific US coin series, that’s a no-go right there.
I would drive up to 1.5 hours (each way) to attend such an event.
