Not for me.... I would love a coin show.... But I like to view coins, maybe purchase... move and leave when I want it suits me. Never liked the food at those type of events, and will avoid such events. I like good food and good wine, so very selective in those areas. Cheers, RickO

That sounds like my local coin club meetings, except without the food. Or the bourse.
It does sound like that, though some coin clubs have tables where people's sitting location becomes a mini-bourse.
For me, the biggest challenging in going to "local" coin club meetings is the traffic which can turn a 20 minute drive on Google Maps into over an hour with challenging parking.

I might try it once. I don't know if I'm a big fan of paying to go to a place where I'm expected to buy stuff. Buffets aren't really my thing. Being trapped in a place for 2-3 hours isn't really my thing. After sitting through 30 years of school and 40 hours of CME each year, it has to be a pretty darn interesting talk to be better than no talk at all.
I'm guessing if this was a good model it would already be working somewhere.....
CME credits... the OPs proposal sounds exactly like my regional ASM Meeting. We have 40 to 50 members in attendance, have a catered dinner, and usually a pretty good speaker... but we're not expected to buy anything. The whole purpose is science and networking.
Applying this approach to a coin show I think would be an "iffy" proposition. Maybe it would depend upon the dealers, the clientele, and the offerings...

I'm only at 25! [That extra year must explain our salary difference! LOL] My friends were wondering if I was just trying to avoid ever having to work.

$15-$20 for dinner and bourse. Depending on the menu, I would even wear a tie if mustard were a condiment. Within a 50 mile radius. Count me in.
Honestly, I don't think there's any way to even do it for that price unless dinner was hot dogs (mustard optional) around a picnic table. You would need a venue. I don't think you'll find many people willing to give you a room and serve you dinner for $25 per person (taxes and tip to be included).
You could try to charge dealers to set up. But how much is a dealer going to want to pay to set up for a 3 hour show with only 25 possible customers?

I would not go if YOU paid ME to attend.
Not even if you were paid to be the guest speaker?
Possibly. I suppose everyone has their price.
I have a better idea. Why not have Zoom coin presentations. I virtually attended a presentation by @EVillageProwler about a year ago, and it was great. I had my own food and drink, and so did everyone else attending in the privacy of their own homes. It was a nice evening, and I sat outside.
The 10-15 dealer mini-bourse does not sound like it would have much appeal, unless I could choose MY favorite dealers to attend. Likely everyone else would feel the same about their slate of dealers, too. The odds that I would be interested in transacting with a random draw of dealers, let alone the 10-15 that would show for such an affair, seem vanishingly low.

On top of having already worked all day and needing to go to work in the morning. And you need ten or twenty of them.

You could do it on a Friday or Saturday night. Then they don't have to work the next day...they just have to travel to a bigger show! LOL
[I know. I know. Dealers just sit around raking in the cash.]
I'm not sure how many people you can get on a zoom call, but you could invite dealers to show off coins and have collectors to view / ask questions / purchase.
E.g., 7-9pm zoom call on a weeknight.
Dealers take turns showing off a limited number of coins based on a fixed time allotment. (total duration divided by number of dealers)
Dealer #1 Kicks off "Here is a beautiful widget with a purple sticker, I'd like $1500 for it.". A collector of purple widgets says in the chat "I'll take it!" and emails the dealer to complete the transaction later.
Might be some risk of disruptive behavior - people not muted, bidding over each other or otherwise arguing, etc, but might be worth a shot.
I'd give it a shot. If it was a once or twice a year thing, no obligation to buy and a speaker who's worth listening to. I enjoy talking coins, meeting folks and looking at coins. I assume us regular folks could bring a coin or two for sale & trade as well.

This is a great idea. I know some clubs like the ANS ( @JesseKraft ) and the Glendale Club ( @illini420 ) have had online meetings. I wish some other clubs like the PCNS would as well.

I agree with you for the forum crowd. We seem to be pretty picky in our coins.
To answer your question.
Yes! I would attend. Without even thinking twice. In saying that, I already had Covid. I know the risks. I am pretty sure, we are covered. The vaccine, amuned from Covid through having Covid and places more aware. So more cleaning and precautions.
Yes, I would GO.

It is an interesting idea. I would pay normal price for a buffet. I think it should be a ticketed event as of right now.

Possibly. Although Thursday is probably the worst possible day of the week considering dealer travel schedules. Tuesday would be much better.
