Insomnia sometimes pays off.

I was perusing fleaBay in the wee hours of the morning a few weeks ago while struggling to breathe through my bought with covid.

This magnificent medal came across my screen an I was immediately enthralled. As usual for me, it was a purchase before research so now I need to find out more about what I own.

What I do know is that this is a commemorative for the Bicentennial of the City of Albany, NY. It has a few rim dings on it that I believe kept it with my budget. They don't really bother me that much because the overall look of this piece is otherwise fantastic.

I am extremely interested in your thoughts on this medal

    Congrats on a wonderful medal @ZoidMeister!

    That's one I look for but haven't picked up a specimen yet.

    Of note, it has a beaver on it so @jabba might chime in as well!

    That is a very nice medal... Good find.... I used to look for these (I live just south of Albany)... Never got a chance at one.... Moved on to other interests... Looks like I will get back in the search. Cheers, RickO

    I need to get measurements on its thickness now. It does look like the first copper / bronze medal shown, a deep chocolate bronze.

    Z that is a nice looking medal. The obv doesn't show the rim dings, which is great. The design is clean and sharp. The beav and the gnawed down tree is sweet. Peace Roy

      I found that original case at the ANA Show in August; only one I have ever seen. The dealer was from Albany and he bought the set from an individual whose family had been in Albany for generations and this set had been in the family. Could have been purchased at the time of the celebration. It is hard to tell from the images but both medals are perfect, as if they were taken from the press, placed in the case and never touched.
