1955 lincoln error
Hi all I have a 1955 S over D lincoln penny. Yes I know there is not suppose to be any and no information on one if there is. But I have one in my possession. I would love to get it graded but can't afford to. Tell me what you think about the coin. I don't know how to post photos on here or I would.

Welcome to the Forum
Yeah, uploading photos can be complicated. It took me awhile as well.
Ask around, maybe a family member or media friend? Even try BEST BUY. The Geek Squad can help for free! Good Luck, my friend. Once you learn, you'll find it hard to stop. Lol. I surely hope you have a true 1955 s over d? That would be
Awesome! Continue to post, ask any questions and most of all,HAVE FUN. - Joey

No cause the lincoln cent in 1955 the is no mint mark for Philadelphia mint it is plain as day S over D. It makes the penny look like a 1955 B lincoln

Even if it was an S over P there still have never been know of or seen one ever. So either way it is one of a kind as of right now and I am pretty sure coin collectors will be start braking down my door to get there hands on it

I looked and it sure looks like a 55 S to me with a small anomaly that makes it look like it has a vertical area. I just don’t see the D personally.

There's no P mint mark on 1955 cents.
It's a die chip, not an S over D. An S over D would not be filled in the lower loop of the S.

Well you are wrong about the lower loop being filled in is not an S over D. I have seen lots of S over D's with filled in loops. You need to take a look at some on heritage action or on one of the grading companies

Here's the photo from facebook.
I think what you are seeing is the raised straight edge in the left left part of the S.
This could easily be from a die chip, as @jmlanzaf has stated. That is a fairly good photo, but not good enough to prove it is a S over D.

You need to take a look at some on heritage action or on one of the grading companiesThe D mint mark is a raised line with no fill in the middle. If you strike an S over it, you get a line from the D and a hollow from the middle of the D. Sometimes, it is not completely clean. You have the exact opposite, what you are considering a raised middle if the D with no outside line tracing the shape of the D.

I'm sorry, but your coin is what a die chip looks like, not an S over D.
I've seen hundreds of die-chip filled S mint marks. It is quite common due to erosion of the small raised feature that normally traces the hollow of the S. [The die is the opposite of the coin. ]

I agree with the die chip assessment.... Pictures could be better, but that is not a D ... Cheers, RickO

Well you all refer to one coin abd the biggest problem with referring to the coin from 1946 is that the die. And the mint stamp can end up broken or has to be exchanged over the years. If you realize that is a 9 year span and who knows how many they have to change out between then. It still won't up load photos I have another I will put on facebook or you can find it on coin community

What happens when you draw the letter D then draw the S over it. Its the same concept. Try it you'll see what you get
0 -
If you believe in it, you should send it in as a discovery coin to either the TPG of your choice or to one of the several experts out there like Wexler.

Send it in. Arguing with the old pros on this forum will accomplish nothing.
If PCGS agrees with you. I will refund your submission fees.

You asked for feedback and received it from several forum members, who happen to know that they’re talking about. Then you proceeded to argue with them. If you’re really trying to learn, I’d suggest a different approach in the future.

No I am not arguing with them I am just trying to prove a point that no matter how long you been doing something there are always things that you learn are new. You may know more about something than others cause of experience but you are not always right. You may think you know everything about it but you don't know know everything and will never know everything about it. There are always something new and unexpected to pass by you at least once in your life.

If the new members that come here to teach forum would keep an open mind as much as they expect us to there wouldn't be a problem.

A. You have found a brand new variety of a 65-year-old coin in one of the most researched series (and hoarded dates) in the entire modern U.S. coinage.
B. ALL the old, experienced pros (who never agree with each other) are right.
Maybe, this is YOUR moment of learning and your "new and unexpected" die chip.
My offer stands. Send it in and the submission will be free if PCGS agrees with you.

Others have decades of experience and are leaders in their full time professions. They have demonstrated their credibility on this board time and time again. When multiple members are telling you the same thing, there's a reason.
@jmlanzaf pointed things out very succinctly. 1955 cents have been searched for varieties ever since the spectacular doubled die was discovered 56 years ago. Chances of finding a new variety that was overlooked after all the searching over the half century has to be almost non existent.
Hope this helps

I am not say they are wrong or I am right. I was just showing them that sometime people get stuck in their ways pf things they are use to or they have only known from facts of others they believe is creditable. A lot of these types of suppose to be a credible source but the true fact is that they are so stuck in their ways that they can not look pass what they are use to knowing and try to have an open mind. I have seen it time and time again in many fields of type of teacher and in specially in the field of collecting item that are of value.

We aren't saying "no" just because it's "new". We are seeing something familiar not something new and unexpected.
Why not post the picture on the CONECA forum?

Understanding the minting process and the die (what you called "the mint stamp") is not being "stuck in their ways".
Put your money where your mouth is and have it assessed by PCGS. (But, of course, you probably won't accept their opinion, either).

To make a definitive judgement on any coin, a clear sharp closeup photo is usually necessary. Until you post one, you are not going to be able to prove your case. You need to provide better evidence.
Based on what I've seen so far, I agree with the other posters on this thread.

I have posted a new close up of the coin on coneca. It's been on there all day. had 12 views but no comments. That's strange.I thought someone on there would have by now told be I was full of it. They are suppose to be the pro according to you guys. Why you think that its take anyone to comment on my post on coneca

I just went to Coneca, but since I am not a member of the forum there, I cannot view your photo. So if you want a better judgement from this forum, better photo(s) need to be posted here.
While no-one on the coneca site has made a comment regarding your posting, that does not strengthen your claim. If it was a very clear and apparent true variety, I would suspect someone would have responded. The real McCoys tend to get attention (on this forum anyways).

Easy, tell those guys that they are also full of c$#p like you have everyone here. You are sure to get a reply.

You've also posted it in the wrong thread. You put it under errors. You want it under varieties.
