1856-O $10 Gold Liberty

MeltdownMeltdown Posts: 9,246 ✭✭✭✭✭

Terrible photos but I just sent this off to our hosts... not quite as baggy as the lights make it appear.
You can't tell from the photos but the fields have a nice mirror flash to them.
Fingers will be crossed for a straight grade - it's AU something I think.
Only 14k mintage, PCGS survival estimates are something like only 100.

It is an AU but it might be cleaned. I hope the hairlines are not very visible in-hand. Tough date regardless.

Well struck example of a challenging date... best of luck with the submission. Hard to offer thoughts without an in hand look

From those photos, a straight grade would be pretty questionable for a common date, IMHO. You may benefit from the leniency effect on rarities, so best of luck!

Photos of these kind of coins can be tough. However, if I'm reading the tea leaves right, that's a straight graded 55. Good luck, and please let us know how it does.

Worse case it'll get a AU Details and at least be authenticated should you decide to sell it in the future. I'm going out on a limb and saying it will straight grade at AU55. I like it a lot.

53 or 55 I'm guessing. Good luck, it looks like a nice coin.

Do two of them make an 1856-O $20?

Great coin to won, even if it comes back AU details, which is my guess.

    Best of luck.

I don't see much of this gold around but I'd like to point out that areas of the obverse rim are below the denticles. I've had gold come back BB where I missed it(filed).
Also some bubbling on the neck.
Vf35-xf40 if it grades. Maybe I'm too harsh.

    Have a nice day

A little "scuffy" but it is a nice coin and I think it will grade AU55.
