GSA Soft Packs

in U.S. Coin Forum

I am building a collection of Morgans, currently
staying with PCGS or NGC graded coins in the
MS63 - MS65 range.
I am seeing alot of graded GSA Soft packs? Are
those true to grade, mostly NGC i see, Are they
worth collecting, I figure if I could get a good
enough price, I could send out to be capsuled.

Any help appreciated,

    I would keep them in the original packaging. Grades are usually accurate on those. Many GSA are in the 63 range.

    Some of the Soft Packs are not graded. Are most
    those true uncirculated coins in them, at least a
    MS63 or MS64 grade if sent out?

    Post some pictures and we’ll try. No guarantee with soft pac. I think they are supposed to be ms. but no grade numerically.

    Soft packs are all over the place grade-wise, and some exceptionally tough dates exist within those packs. Keep 'em in OGP and buy 'em if it makes sense.

    Please, don't do that. A large part of their charm; in many cases all of it, is that they are in the GSA soft pack.

    they were sold as circulated and says so on white token in piliform with dollar, although some are ugly BUs

    I got some decent ones when they were offered-1882-CC, 1883-CC, 1884-CC, easily MS64 by today's standards. The '82-CC was semi-prooflike.

    Mid to low MS is common and the 82/83/84's are the most commonly encountered CC dates.... best to leave them in the soft packs.... Cheers, RickO

    Correct. And some are decent uncs. Keep in mind, these were sorted and packaged by mint employees, with little grading knowledge.

    Buying and Selling coins for 54 years, 700+ shows in last 20 years, and boy am I tired.

    Perhaps you have misread the OP’s original post: he’s talking about soft packs, not hard packs.
    Neither grading service has reported grading any GSA 1884-CC (or 1885-CC) in a soft pack. While we know that nearly the entire mintage of 1884-CCs were found in the GSA hoard and placed in hard packs, no 1884-CC has been found in a GSA soft packs have found to date (yet).

    There are a few 82-CC and 83-CCs in GSA soft packs in conditions ranging from G to low MS but the population of these soft packs also are scarce and number less than 25 per date.

    Successful BST: dmwjr, ike126, bajjerfan, morganman94, sonoradesertrat, 12voltman, duiguy, gsaguy, gsa1fan, martin, coinfame, zas107, bothuwui, gerard, kccoin, jtwitten, robcool, coinscoins, mountain_goat, and a few more.

    Yall glazed over that 1884 plain didn't you... Heritage sold an MS-63 for 1600 bucks last April.

    Always check pops and comps on soft packs.
