"MERICA"?

Hey guys, found this in a bag of wheats I bought online. I know the process in which this happens but my questions are #1 how did this coin last so long in circulation without being found and this cent is a 1920. #2 how much might it he worth and is there a market for it?

    Minor die fill error.

Condition of the coin is not good.

    No extra value.

Oh I bet someone on ebay would pay a couple bucks for it just because it's funny.

Value is one cent. It is too far gone to be worth any more unless you can find someone who buys wheatbacks.

Not true, it’s worth 3c in bulk. That said 3c isn’t worth what it used to be in Merica

    questions are

1 how did this coin last so long in circulation without being found and this cent is a 1920.
    .
Answer: It was put back in circulation fairly recently. Could be by someone getting rid of a family accumulation or even a collector or dealer intentionally putting something interesting back in change to spark an interest in coins.
    .
    .

2 how much might it be worth and is there a market for it?

Answer: A full Good-4 condition 1920 shows a wholesale price of around 10 cents, usually needs to be in quantity. Bulk later wheat cents still go for around 3 cents each.

As @ChrisH821 alluded to, someone who likes their 'Merica jokes might pay a couple of bucks.

Or you can join the insane Ebay listing types with "!!! L@@K WOW!!! RARE RARE RARE!!! 'MERICA ERORR PENNY UNIGUE $60,000 !!!"

True - maybe a bit more, BUT, a value can't be given for your cent because we don't know the condition of the obverse. As it stands there most likely isn't an added premium because of that very minor struck through grease error.

It was good for a chuckle. If I owned it, I'd probably keep it and file it under "Cute or Interesting."

But only if the seller has them in bulk and to cover the costs associated with selling such items there better be a lot of them.

Die filled error... minor, and coin condition is quite worn. No numismatic premium worth pursuing. Cheers, RickO
