Is NTC changing coin grading policies? Do you have any NTC graded coins?

Interesting program for old NTC slabbed coins.

Anyone have an old NTC slabbed coin?

From the NTC Website.......

We are providing the following program as a courtesy as we do not have access to any records of older NTC coins.

1) Submit an older NTC coin for grading for only $2.00/coin plus return postage. Be sure to use a separate submission form for these coins.

2) Older NTC coins as pictured above will be graded as raw coins to the current industry standards. There is no guarantee that previous grades will cross over.

3) You will receive a certificate for 1 free regular service coin grading per submission. Free grading does not include return shipping.

4) Only one certificate redeemable per submission.

5) Upon completion of grading, you will have the choice of either keeping your coins in the old NTC holder or transferring to the New NTC II holder with hologram. Grading fees still apply either way.

I stayed away from NTC slabs. I’m surprised there is still a business entity out there for them. I don’t recall, were they the ones that we’re in court over over-grading? I may be remembering another company. It was like 15 or so years ago.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that was NNC.

I'm not sure why I want to spend any money redoing my NTC slab when the NTC coin essentially trades a raw anyway.

So they don't have record of the old coins and they have a name that no one respects. Why not just start over from scratch?

Trying to start afresh with the same name that doesn’t have but a foul name recognition.

Trying to start new with no name recognition.

    I think I’d do neither.

NTC/NNC-same animal. Didn't trust 'em then and wouldn't trust 'em now.

A little late for a “do over” isn’t it?

Yes I have one or two, however while I do not see the value of this offer I have no doubt that some will.

I thought they were located in Long Island, New York? Their address says South Carolina now.

I feel like I'm missing something. Did the company recently change hands? If so, and depending on what the new owner thinks of the company's reputation, the offer might make sense.

The offer reads like a new owner unless the owner has lost records of old subs.

I treat these as raw coins.

Perhaps they are tightening up their grading standards and would like to become a TPG player going forward.

Could be, but even so, my question still stands: Does their grading standard matter to collectors?

NTC has had that offer up on their website for several years now.

Here was a thread where we discussed them in 2019:

    This is pretty interesting:

Brad Johnson joined NTC and used to work at TeleTrade:

Ian Russell was CEO of TeleTrade.

A number of us have good memories of TeleTrade. Where are the other alums now?

I got rid of my any ntc coins I had (submitted to Pcgs a few) decades ago. I remember a friend getting all the money on a NTC ms 63 $2.50 Indian in the young days of eBay long ago. It seemed accurately graded to me. However the market for off brand TPG can be tough. I recommend u price them based on their grade on holder or simply cost plus. I would never give something away at ms 60 money was 65 IMO. But I recommend crack out and send to Pcgs best choice it’s just a matter of spending some money. Otherwise you will encounter resistance getting all the money.

If I had some would send them in to Pcgs get graded if cost / value relationship justified it. Otherwise would just price cost plus / or based on grade on their holder (possibly discounted) sorta like I do raw coins Basal Unc - ms60 (Cw Trends) ch Unc MS63, gem Unc or gem bu - I will ask cw trends MS65. Underpricing a coin bc it is raw not how I roll. If can’t make the play as designed then a read of the defense is needed to decide to pitch or keep the ball.

Don’t let somebody talk u down feeding their some big gun collector or dealer star bulldozing u trying buy a 65 coin for 60 money even if it’s just a $10-$20 coin. I simply refer them to the sand at the nearest beach. I remember in 1990 when new doing shows those guys and their spiel. After stuffing a few in the backfield they dispersed.
