1909-S VDB can anyone tell me if this is authentic #2

Since the first one (earlier thread) turned out to be bad the dealer exchanged it for this one.
Feel free to comment authenticity and if not why.

Scared to go first but I'll take a chance and say the VDB is good to go - mintmark #2 -

I am sensing verdigris and scratches across the obverse?

There is two versions of the designers initials on the 1909,
There is the Philly Mint with the lower periods, and the period following (D) is tucked up close to the D.
Then there is the San Francisco Mint version, the periods are a tad bit higher, and the period following the (D) is more center of the D and the V.
The #2 coin looks to have the correct designer initials, that means this one isn't one that pasting an S mint mark on would be required!
The applied S mint mark is done on the philly minted 1909 Plain VDB.
So, for that reason I'm on the side of the fence of # 2 being genuine.

Well, breaking the ice hasn't been a problem for me, now falling through it has been a different story :D

VDB and MM looks genuine to me, but others are far more intelligent on these and hopefully will comment.

Most added mintmarks use crazy glue or similar as an adhesive. If in doubt or you just want to test it, add a drop of acetone to the mintmark and then after a few seconds push on the mintmark with a toothpick. If it moves, it's bad.

    1. The details on this one has a clearly more circulation wear than the first
    2. It is scratched
    3. It has verdigris

Let’s just say the first one is real. You then go in and say you don’t like the orange clay mud color. He offers this in an even exchange.

I’d say the coins, just playing the first is real, are not an even swap.

It is genuine, but would fall into a Genuine-Details holder.

Not an even swap. Paid $500 for this one.
Would like to get a nicer one like the first 1909-S that turned out to be fake.
If anyone has a nicer example in the $600 range I would be interested.

But if it's out of position, you could move it back to the proper place.

you could move it back to the proper place.

You could, but the position you move it to must be exact. Sometimes we see improper tilt on the 's' that has been glued on these fakes. Armed with a good microscope and referencing known genuine pieces the expert is hard to fool.
