Very crude. Looks to be cast in a sand mold. Can we see the edge?

@ricko I cant recall where I found it. Probably a coin store. I also have a counterfeit Barber half that looks very similar but cant seem to locate it. I used to have the $3 gold counterfeit by the omega counterfeiter but sold to a dealer years ago for $700 as a counterfeit of course.

@HalfDimeDude I am curious about how much they were asking. I know some people like collecting the fakes.

At first glance it appears to be a moderately worn coin with salt water damage then when I view the rims (too wide) and other details- yes, it is a counterfeit.
Neat coin though as it is cooler looking than most counterfeits.
    Is it made of silver?

I didnt ask he this" old man" had it in a binder full of exonuma . He had more crap at that show than anyone else.... but he is a bit of a PIA ! He wanted to see my need list...I said No! As he couldn't read it anyway in my codes ....Plus I dont like a pushy person or salesman!
Should I see him again I will check...he did have a few items in the exonuma i liked.

@braddick It sounds like silver when you drop it on the countertop.

Looks like a helluva die crack through and around the "TES" of STATES on the reverse. Maybe one of the more knowledgeable T$1 experts can chime in on whether they have seen that on other 77-S examples...

Back in the early 2000s, at the MidAmerica show which NN ran at the Stevens Convention Center, a ‘gentleman’ approached my table and wanted to sell me 200 similar fake TDs for $6 each.

I bought this one for $5 a long time ago- can’t see the edge because the holder is glued shut

remind me not to buy any raw trade dollars. Is there a way to tell from those beautiful images that this is a fake?

Mine looks a little off in hand- but I would recommend you not buy raw unless you’re an expert or you can afford to lose whatever you’re spending. For me, I’ll stick to PCGS and NGC. I learned my lesson one time- I purchased a raw proof Morgan (I’ve had the #1 set in the NGC Registry for the last ten years so I’ve seen more than a couple of proof Morgan’s) and my raw proof came back “Altered Surfaces”- once was enough, and I’ve learned my lesson.

@moursund can you see the difference in how wide the rim is on the fake compared to the real one? Thats one way to tell. Some Trade dollar fakes are really good thou so stick to certified by top companies if shelling out big money.
