Looks like a smaller version of a die gouge like found on wounded eagle sac

A die gouge would be raised

wouldn't a die gouge result in a raised surface. Pic seems to be an incuse defect.

It appears to be incuse on the pictures.... Can you confirm whether raised or incuse?? Cheers, RickO

My guess would be a small strike-thru.

    Here’s a picture from eBay. Sorry it’s a screenshot. I don’t see it can’t tell if that’s a little mark. 🤓

since it is on more than one specimen, I vote strike thru. There are likely more. Will be interesting to see if the TPGs reduce the grade by considering it a tick/hit on the coin.

I honestly don’t know I would like to learn Is a strike through an error or it’s own designation. I believe I’ve seen it noted on slabs. Thanks 🤓🙀

    Technically an error

Are we sure this is not part of the design? It's on both of my proof S ASEs it's also present on my bullion type2 ASE. My W coins are with PCGS now so I can't look at them. I have tried to take a photo of the bullion coin, but I can't get the picture to show enough detail.

This is on my 2021 MS70 bullion eagle Type 2 as mentioned above by @ndeagles . Here is a close-up. It seems to be as struck and part of the dies on these.

We have found various similar marks on ase Wproof Sproof and the frosted bullion issue. 3different coins similar marks. I’m going to dig out my W proof and photo it if similar. Thanks 🤓🙀

My W proof also has that. I think it may just be part of the design.

I just checked my raw Type 2 bullion, it looks like it is part of the design.

It appears on all of my S and W proof coins. It is a design feature. No error.

A member reports finding 10 ASE coins without this characteristic.

I believe this is an intentional design element, as a zoom in on the us mint render of the rev shows an area that looks like this.

I just opened a box of (10) for submission and none of them showed this defect. Remains to be seen how the TPGs grade those that show this. Might possibly create a lower 70 pop.

Note - this post is from a thread about 21EMN. However, the poster did not explicitly identify the coin type (i.e., T2 Proof-W, T2 Proof-S, etc.).

That box of (10) without the gouge were S proofs.
