This Ebay Seller Shows no Respect for PCGS

I thought this was kinda funny when I ran across it...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/373527362238?hash=item56f7f73abe:g:l0kAAOSwJiBfoGoI
The coin is in a PCGS holder graded as MS70 and the description is:
"2018 American Silver Eagle $1 FIRST STRIKE. MS70. SPOTS/TONING/SCRATCHES/SCUFFS"
"“NOTE: COIN HAS MINOR SPOTS/TONING/LIGHT SCRATCHES/SCUFFS ON EITHER OBVERSE/REVERSE OR BOTH SIDES.”"

maybe not, but he is just trying to protect his 100 percent feedback by "exactly as described" and also trying to prevent returns
Copy and paste gone wrong?
Disagree. It has nothing to do with PCGS
It sounds like the seller is using a stock photo and is attempting to mitigate returns. I fail to see how that is disrespectful of PCGS.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
It's called "disclosure."
Repetition of ignorance is ignorance raised to the power two.
Sounds like someone to stay away from. More trouble then it's worth
Why does someone, who discloses problems with coins he’s selling, sound like someone to stay away from?

It sounds like the seller is avoiding something to me. It might not be anything... just saying here 🙂
Yes, he’s probably trying to avoid unhappy buyers and returns by letting people know in advance not to expect perfection.

Considering he's both using stock photos and many PCGS (and NGC) Silver Eagles graded 70 have spots and haze, I see nothing wrong with what he's doing. If you want a "perfect" coin go find one. If you want a 70 label, you'll get this one cheaper, but don't go back crying when it has the things the seller told you it had.
I'm cool with that.
All of those can exist on a PCGS MS70 coin.
Here's the PCGS definition:

Yep.... That is a 'butt covering' listing..... And he does not want the interest limiting 'no returns' statement. This way, what you get is what he promised. Cheers, RickO

I think the disrespect to PCGS is that they assign an MS-70 grade to a coin the seller says has scratches and scuffs.
Bingo pmh1nic! That is why the offer description made me smile because a PCGS MS70 grade and the description of potential defects the seller included would not be allowed by PCGS.
The spots certainly would be consistent.
But, again, it is about lowering the buyer's expectation not a criticism of PCGS.
There are lots of coins graded 70 that exhibit spots (which almost certainly developed after grading and encapsulation). That’s not disrespect to PCGS, but rather, reality.

That's the reason I only mention scratches and scuffs. Spots and toning can develop after the coin has been slabbed so PCGS can't be held at fault for those issues. Scratches and scuffs on an MS-70 coin would be another matter.
BTW, it's another reason I wouldn't pay an outrageous premium for an MS-70 coin. No guarantee that spotless coin is going to remain spotless.
Spotless coin there’s no guarantee it will spot. Collector abuse can cause problems just with storage, temperature, humidity. I am very picky about what I pay for a 70. 🤓
🎶 shout shout, let it all out 🎶
I habitually stay away from sellers who use stock photos. I would 110% stay away from a seller who in addition prominently posts CYA verbiage. YMMV. It's not like the coin on offer is scarce, so what's the upside?
I agree, not a problem, actually an honest description. You wont believe the number of silver eagles, commems, and other crap in 70 holders from all the services, pcgs, ngc and anacs I get in the shop. I try too over disclose because I want people knowing what their getting, and to avoid returns. I wouldn't buy a 70 with issues.
edited to add. i have had some coins so bad that ive cracked them out of 70's and threw them in the bullion bins
Title: 2021 1oz American Silver Eagle San Francisco Emergency Issue PCGS MS 70 Scratch
Description: An approximately 3/4 inch long scratch is seen on the reverse.
Reeee! PCGS MS70!! Scratch!!!
Go get 'em, guys. Make me proud.
Oh, wait- the coin's already been sold. Nevermind.
I have never understood why a common bullion coin, even in PCGS MS70 plastic (also fairly common) would be worth double the bullion price. It is still basically pretty bullion, which will become known when when it is sold to a dealer.
Dealers will pay more for 70s because they can sell them for more. [Unless spotted, of course.]
The seller can't win. He would get criticized for not providing full disclosure regarding the coin yet is excoriated for disrespecting PCGS? I'd applaud any seller who is that up front about the coins they are selling as long as those issues are evident.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
this seller has no respect obligation toward PCGS.
he might have an obligation as far as Copyright is concerned? usually, stock images have owners who like to be listed?? and or paid.
How do you know it is not his own images?
and... another thing.
there are way too many 70 grade coins out there. 70 is supposed to be purrrrrrfect???
Buy the holder not the coin SILLY RABBIT.

Yes. No one ever returned a coin because it was nicer than expected.
This is actually true as long as you are at the sight unseen price. For widgets, I don't even need a photo, stock or otherwise.
and disclosure about a problem coin, even if in a reputable holder, is a bad thing?
