What is that on her head, and what does it do to the coin value?

My first thought is something with sulfur in it like maybe a rubber band sat on it. It would be a negative to me.
VF30 perhaps 35.
Looks like some environmental degradation (tarnish and/or mild corrosion).
It won't affect the value to a great extent.
The coin is genuine (many are not).
The coin's value would be commensurate with a VF-35 grade.

The best way to get good at grading is practice. Here is a link to help get you started. There are also books and other sites that are good

Next time, try to grade it yourself and then post your best guess for confirmation. You should also check out the "Guess the grade" posts. This hobby can get old quickly if you can't grade and rely on others, so take the time and start studying

looks like vf30-35 ; on the obv there seems to be some problem with the rim/dentils from about 12 to 1; maybe some kind of damage but hard for me to tell. agree the dark area on the obv is most likely from something sulfurous in direct contact.
Solid VF by wear but with excessive marks for the grade. A coin I would pass on unless it was cheap.
Looks to be about a 35 grade.... and authentic. I prefer more detail on Trade dollars. Cheers, RickO

Just because a coin straight grades does not mean it is something discriminating collectors will want. Discriminating collectors do not want to see a more circulation marks than are usually seen on a coin of the stated grade. Be conservative in your own personal grading standards.
I’d change that to: Be realistic in your grading standards, but patient and discriminating in what you buy.

Yah, I did try to grade it myself. In my spreadsheet, it says 'vf', with the note 'discoloration across the head'. Looked like vf30 at least for details, but maybe a demerit for the blotch.
I have been using the ANA grading standard book... pretty good for circulated grades, but I'm not experienced yet on how to treat minor damage and bad toning.
