Ebay fixed their sales tax issue?

AercusAercus Posts: 381 ✭✭✭✭

Just bought some stuff today. No longer being charged Florida sales tax on items under 500 bucks. Confirmed by adding other stuff to my cart. No sales tax charged. Can anyone else who's been having problems confirm?

Good catch. It’s no longer adding tax to those items for me either. They still owe me at least $50 in illegally collected taxes which I have heard nothing back about, however.

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

Yes they still owe me some as well. I find it takes a week or two for my requests to go through. Every week or so I send them a list of what I am still owed. I hope that this fix will let them cut through the backlog quicker.

I've cut back on buying coins so much this year on eBay it isn't funny. Not too sure the laws for coins are in California but I am sure I was rooked like others.

You're not sure about the law, but you know you were rooked?

You'll get taxed unless your total purchase on 1 invoice is greater than $1500.00.

Still collecting taxes here and only 1 of 3 items refunded after over 3 months. :/

The problem is not resolved in all states.

Not resolved in Connecticut. Stupid eBay considers everything in the coin category as "bullion" for sales tax purposes. Collectible coins, especially COPPER and NICKEL is NOT BULLION under Connecticut law. Even "junk silver" is considered a "collectible coin" and not subject to sales tax. Not happy.

i called about a refund 4 weeks ago, and the person i talked with agreed on a mistake as she looked up my state for tax rates, yet still said the tax people on e bay need to look into it too, she said i would have my money back within 10 days, what a joke

I would be willing to bet that in a week or two they will be collecting tax again in Florida. ;)

Possible, definitely keeping an eye on it. And still working on getting all my refunds as well. Not super happy about how they have handled this.

BTW, my recommendation if you are having trouble getting refunds, use the chat rather than a phone call. Much higher success rate for me.

@Aercus "use the chat rather than a phone call."

I have tried every form of contact with them for over 3 months.
Read my thread about ebay sales tax problems. ;)

I did that's why I suggested it. Didn't realize you tried the chat already.

I have no idea why they're giving you so much trouble. Usually a couple of pings max and they will refund me. It's a disgrace, I hope they get their act together and refund you soon. I'm not sure what recourses there are on improperly collected tax if they actually submit it.

It's also illegal if they don't pay the money back to the buyer and don't pay it to the state.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Are they not supposed to collect taxes from ANY states? I thought it was state dependent. At this point, I prefer Great Collections since I don't get taxed.
