New Peace dollar purchase... GTG ***Grade revealed***

Grade revealed in later post
Feel free to guess the grade on this 1923-D issue! This issue is plagued by a weak strike in the center and die cracks spidering around Miss Liberty on the obverse. I think this one is quite hammered and the die cracks are less noticeable than others I've seen.
This is my 6th Peace dollar purchase since starting the collection last fall. I think the tarnish/toning adds originality & crustiness.
It is CAC'd, if that means anything. Thanks for looking!
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

Well, the surface of the coin is largely free of hits and other distractions. Strike is good. The grade is going to be largely determined by luster, which is hard to evaluate in a TrueView and even harder when there's plenty of toning. Anything between MS62-MS65 wouldn't surprise me. The toning is nice and adds to the eye appeal.
23-D's do come with die cracks around the neck truncation quite frequently, but I'd disagree that it often comes with weak centers. In fact, the 23-D usually comes well-struck. The early Denver coins were usually better than Philly dates and way better than San Fran coins.
After all that, I'll guess MS63. Within reason, this coin will sell at a price point determined more by its color than by its grade.
I like it at 64.
65

I'll take a stab with 64.
Pencil me in as a 64+

A couple of neck abrasions. How's the luster? Without knowing I've got to go with MS64. Yet if the color in real life is slightly lighter and there is luster a full GEM would be my better guess.

I like it, but not for me to grade from these pics, as I can see no luster. I see a couple of marks which is good, but with the toning and the TV, while nice, doesn't help. Still a nice coin and probably a good addition to your collection.

My instinctive guess is 64.

I think the neck chatter limits it to 64. If the luster is subdued I'd say 63, but assuming the luster is decent I'll say 64.
In a 63 holder with a CAC sticker is my guess

That is a tough one. I'm assuming it looks much better in hand and is more lustrous.
MS65
Im thinking the way many others here are. Well struck and appears overall quite clean. It looks a bit muted, and the lustre will really carry this in either direction. None? 62. Full but the picture just doesn’t show it? 65 or maybe 66. As shown in the photos I’d think 63 or 64, and with the eye appeal will go 64.
Do you have a luster shot to go with that toning shot?
Nice color!
MS-63
Nice hair detail, but the hits on the neck are distracting. I would guess 63, maybe 64... Though, for me, it would be a hard pass due to the
tarnish. Cheers, RickO
Agree with most of the comments that the luster is difficult to determine. My WAG is 64 thinking that the neck hits limit. Would not be surprised a 63+ CAC either.
Thank you for all of the guesses. It is a 65+ CAC.
While the luster is understated, so it the toning; the TV images seem to both exaggerate the degree of toning and the hits on the neck, which are not nearly as pronounced as the TV image indicates. Overall, it is a super clean coin and, I think, graded correctly.
All of this really just points to the difficulty in capturing a coin's essence in digital imagery and then projecting it through a computer monitor.

Hmmmm. Looks like a completely different coin in the TrueView and slab shots. The slab photos show the luster much better, but the toning isn't nearly so nice. The market often doesn't favor coins with this look.
62 I think that the coin has some how turned in the holder. Oh well to each his own from the pictures it would be a pass.

I almost went there
That's a very pretty coin!
Did you take the slab photos or are they from an auction listing?
The slab photos are from an auction listing at Pinnacle Rarities. I've yet to take pix myself.
