He was in the movie very briefly
Several Astros - including Bob Watson, Cesar Cedeno, Enos Cabell, J.R. Richard and Ken Forsch - made cameos near the end of the movie, but Watson was the only one given a speaking part. BTW None of them ever cheated!
1st movie was classic , 2nd (Breaking training) is my favorite. 3rd was horrid.

Another tough loss for those of us who grew up in the 70's and early 80's.
Coincidently, i pickednup a 1976 card of his just this week on a whim at my LCS. Was in so-so condition so i wasn’t even charged.
Sad news. He got a bum deal from the Astros. No telling what he could've done if he had been able to get proper treatment before his stroke.
he was from my hometown Vienna, LA population of about 500 at the time just outside of Ruston, LA. One of the reasons we are Houston Astros fans.
J.R. was the starter at my very first game at Wrigley in 79.

Sad - he was absolutely dominating. Remember how sad I was when he had his stroke.
JR was one of my favorite players. As a 9 year old his 1980 Topps card was a prized possession. I remember trading a 1980 Dave Kingman for my friends1980 Rickey Henderson rookie card. He wanted the JR Richard but that was too steep a price. That’s how good he was!! I’m glad so many are posting comments.
sad news. I always liked him. I remember him throwing in the 70's. boy could throw. I got to meet him in Philly years ago and got his autograph. great day for me. meeting a true childhood hero, age 6-8. I'll always remember that
