Hammered strike! I like it!
I'm as impressed with the photography as I am with the coin. Both very nice.
I like it! Many times the rims take little hits that are frustrating and annoying. Yours is super clean and honestly, looks like it could grade a point higher (unless the luster is subdued).

Beautiful! I love the color! These are such neat little coins.
Thank you! The photos are PCGS trueviews

Are the surfaces slightly proof-like?

Nice!!
(An understatement)
"The photos are PCGS trueviews" I wonder what it really looks like.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
A wonderful looking coin and photos as well
I would say so!
I'll post some in-hand photos in a minute. When held at an angle the coin looks just as colorful as in the trueviews, but it also looks brown from certain angles.

That explains the grade. I have seen quite a few half cents like yours, all looking undergraded. There is a strong bias towards luster in determining an MS grade. When it isn't there, and there is no widely accepted PL designation (like there is with Morgan dollars, for example), then the assigned grade frequently will look too low. There are some half cents that do justifiably have PL designations on the inserts now---I passed on a couple of them decades ago, before they got PL designations, because I thought the prices were too high even though I could see the strong reflectivity of their fields. Big mistake.

Nice coin! Excellent strike, those rims are as flat as a pancake.
Those wide rims are one of the things I like about the Braided Hair half cents. It gives them a cameo effect. I have all of the circulation dates in AU and better.
MS70ed copper makes me wonder what it looked like prior to treatment. I bet the splotches on the rev were verdigris. That said all of that is common on old copper and few survivors are that nice.

That is a great strike on that coin.... Clearly has impressive detail that shows through on your slab pictures. Cheers, RickO
