Complete set BU Roosies with PVC

Hey Guys, Hope everyone is having a great summer!
Anyways bought this BU Roosie set today, unfortunately PVC is starting to creep in.
I have a fresh Dansco waiting for these, but first I want to acetone the PVC off, I think if I can acetone these soon the coins will survive.
So my question is, does anyone have experience getting the “Green” stuff off so many coins at once?
Any advice would be helpful!

honestly, if there isn't anything major there, i'd just dump em in a jar with acetone, go on vacation, ask the maid to stir the jar a couple times and make sure to seal it air tight when done and to wear a mask with a fan going.
rinse with tepid water and viola.
nice set though!
i do recall seeing those coin pages at many a dealer's table and they get rather sticky.
I bought an album just like that about ten years ago. Go slow, One at a time. Get a lot of acetone.
Probably best to get a bunch of jars and do them one per jar and change out the acetone multiple times til it’s gone. You don’t want to redeposit the PVC back onto the same coin so that’s why you should change the acetone multiple times and you don’t want to redeposit the PVC onto other coins by reusing the acetone from one coin to the next. Maybe use about 10 different jars so you can do 10 simultaneously or it’ll take forever.

Haha, got it. I’ll lock myself in an airtight room with a few gallons
If it were me, I'd get a glass baking dish and lay them out in it, then pour in the acetone. Pull them out one by one, rinsing with fresh acetone as you do. Repeat as necessary.
don't forget to flip the 46-s over to show a sans serif so you can ruin my day.

I’ll look right now … regular mint mark
Actually, it was worse than I said in my first post. Along with the dimes, there were albums of Washingtons, Kennedys and Ikes.
All with nice, bright green rims.
glass dish, 1/4" acetone and put dimes in not touching each other so that acetone can get to all surfaces. Let soak (will need to cover dish as acetone evoporates quickly and is not good for the lungs) and then drain and repeat several times until no trace of PVC on coin or in acetone. Worked well for me on icky walkers years ago.
PS: I think yours will come out just fine.

don't ask coloneljessup
and don't tell him I said 1 dime per dish to conserve acetone
Baby food jars with their tops work great when soaking multiple coins -
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Think what I’m going to do is put about 10 coins each in a baby food jar and let the coins soak for a day or so..
Will post results in a few days
Is it worth the price of the acetone?
I also got sets of quarters, halves and dollars in the deal, so it worked out okay in the end. If it was just the dimes, I don't know...
No need to soak for days on those.....they will come clean in minutes.

I think your right, only problem now is no distilled water… have to wait until tomorrow morning to hit up grocery store.
For some reason the 1970’s coins in the back of the album had the most PVC
You could rinse with acetone as it does not leave any residue (evaporates completely).
Good job

That looks like an old Harco Coin Master album. I have many sets of coins in those but each coin is in a Kointain capsule so I haven't had any PVC problems with them. They are also the newer style with the hard plastic slides.
Those Harco albums have ruined many a coin. The later ones didn't contain PVC but the earlier ones sure did.
.
remember, stirred, not shaken...
They look as if they will clean up nicely. Be sure to rinse well... I never needed distilled water... Just hot running water is what I used for final rinse (after last acetone bath). I have used alcohol to rinse also. Cheers, RickO
@ricko
They Cleaned up Super! Although I didn’t have the Dansco I thought I did, so I put them into the Mint Album (The Slots in these are super tight, was a little difficult Getting the coins in)
I’m really having a good time putting sets together in Albums, Have Completed 2 Jefferson nickels 1938-2021 and now working the Roosies.
Be sure to check those Roosies for doubled dies. To see what exists, go here-http://www.varietyvista.com/
Keep an eye on them to ensure everything was removed and doesn’t further develop
I bought a set like that and got quite a deal on it. Soaked in acetone and put a little MS70 carefully on each one of the silver ones. Great results!
They look great!

The coins appear to be very nice....Glad it worked out for you. Nice silver collection above the books.... Cheers, RickO
Harco is garbage. Glad you saved those dimes, really nice set.
