2 New pickups for the $20 Large Cent set...

Finaly broke a string of bad luck with 2 wins tonight
A very nice 1831 for 10.50 to replace the badly abused one i had (got the present one as part of a lot i purchased)

and an 1825 for $11 that I think will be much nicer once it is conserved and the crud removed.

You may soar with the eagles, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines!.

    Like them. The 31 is an obvious good choice; the 25 is more subtle but while it isnt as obvious, it is a nice placeholder one one looks a little closer.

    The 1831 is nice. The 1825 is a dog that probably isn't going to look much better when you finish working on it.

    Agree. Although a somewhat better date (1825), I think you can find one a bit nicer and still meet your goal. And perhaps that's your intent, but you have the hole filled for now.....anyway, there seems to be a number of collectors now assembling low grade large cent collections. Even at FUN, I saw guys with lists buying earlier dated rougher coins in the $30-40 range for their sets, and fully enjoying the hobby.
    I know my wife would enjoy my hobby more if I would be content with a low grade set!

    In this case the 1825 will first be placed in a muslin tea bag and boiled in distilled water.. this will actualy remove most of the "crud" with no damage to the coin.. 2nd, she will get a short soak in Verdi-Care, in the case of the 1825 I don't expect it will do much as verdigris is not the issue on this coin but it does often get off crud the boiling water won't.. No it won't turn it into a star coin but the improvements i have seen in the past can be amazing. I'll also add, I have had darn good luck in chosing coins for conservation and I think the 1825 is going to surprise some people :smile: If not well.. I can afford a few mistakes that this price range :smile: I'll even add in my last conservation.. this 1832 was what is called a "pickle barrel cent"

    1825 has arrived and undergone conservation... Not as nice as I might have hoped for but I'm quite happy for $11 :smiley:
