As much as I want to support the USPS, I can't ....... (The rant worked, package arrived today).

Buyer sent USPS priority registered - I wanted to say, "No, don't do it!, but it wasn't my choice.

I'll be surprised if the coins show up, ever!

I mean - check out the 1st date - not even close to the mailing date. Do they recycle tracking numbers??

My last purchase from heritage went from Texas to Southern California ( where I live)
To Hawaii, then to Arizona, back to southern Cali, then me. ;)

I’ve never had an item lost or stolen but I also don’t buy/sell nearly as many coins as others do. Mostly due to cost of shipping and insurance, my next submission to PCGS will be done in person at Summer FUN but I also think about the security of not having to mail them one way as well.

What the USPS themselves say about tracking registered mail:

"Registered Mail (domestic and international) service and Registered Mail Restricted Delivery service alone cannot be tracked through the mailstream."

Not that this is going make any difference, I'm sure.

Some people believe the "tracking" results provided for a registered mail package by the USPS but ignore that the USPS also says that registered mail can't be tracked.

    Curious, no?

Well, they don't get regular scans but the scans they do get should be accurate. The OP seems to be saying that the info is incorrect.

I suppose, if the internal registered tracking system is compatible with what's publicly available for regular mail.

    Is it?

My purchases seem to be taking 7-10 days regardless of where they're coming from. I live in MD and had a package from HI beat a package from TX... A recent purchase from DE is now on track for a week... but, at least I'm getting stuff.

@Lakesammman USPS does recycle tracking numbers. It’s uncommon but it does happen. Early this year I sold something on eBay, printed the label, and soon after the buyer contacts me about the tracking number. I check and sure enough it showed as delivered a few months ago (even thought I had printed the label within the last hour). Once I took it to the post office, there was a new scan and it traveled normally until it was delivered to the buyer.

    https://support.shippingeasy.com/hc/en-us/articles/203085799-Why-does-USPS-show-my-package-as-Delivered-if-I-just-shipped-it-#recycled-tracking-numbers--0-1

Yours is a bit unusual since there is no “delivered” on the May entry but I’m guessing it’s still a reused tracking number.

Usually. Although there was a period earlier in the year where their tracking seemed...er .. confused. It wasn't registered specific but I had one that tracking mislocated as did a friend. Eventually it corrected itself.

Had a coin go from Wisconsin to Dallas, about 3 hours away from me to Seattle, SF, back to Dallas and finally here. I was thinking tracking errors, wasn’t actually shipped all over the country.

So, if you can't track it, when do you know to go to the PO Box and pick it up??

Tried "notification" service once but turned it off - got pinged for every piece of junk mail addressed to the former PO Box renter(s).

This thread reminded me of a question I’ve meant to ask on this forum. Is there any reason to use Priority service with Registered Mail. I’ve used this method on high value submissions only to experience the same results as the OP.

    Is Priority Registered an oxymoron?

I do not do a lot of shipping, but Registered as always worked well for me on packages of significant value. I receive more packages than I ship - by far. Although a package (or two, or three) may sometimes take a tad longer than expected, they always arrive. I just wait... I do not constantly refresh my computer when waiting on grades either. :D;) Cheers, RickO

Only if you're required to due to weight.

Do not know if it will 'work' for your PO situation, but this is what I do for key deliveries to my home.

    1) Go to USPS Tracking as soon as I get a tracking number
    2) Enter the tracking number
    3) Open "Text & E-Mail Updates"
    4) Make my selections

All registered mail goes via the same route: locked parcel bags. There are no tiers of service. So, don't pay Priority unless, as @MasonG said, you have to due to weight.

If you sign up for Informed Delivery you won't have to enter each tracking #. Informed Delivery tells you what tracked packages addressed to you are in the USPS system, when they are expected to arrive and when they do arrive and are available for pick up.

Although I moved across the city 20 years ago I still kept my previous long time P.O. Box since I had 25,000++ business cards & old ads out there with that address. I visit it once a week or sooner when Informed Delivery tells me that a package has arrived. Informed Delivery is a useful service.

I do not currently use 'Informed Delivery'. Can a customer limit the notifications to packages (i.e., opt out of mailpiece notifications)?

Up until recently I had excellent service from the USPS to and from all parts of the country. On May 21 I sent a SFRB to MS. It arrived at the Memphis distribution center on the 23rd after which it went MIA. What is the chance that it will still be delivered?

That time frame is not very unusual for registered package. With registered mail expediency is sacrificed for security. Security is more important than expediency to me.

It's not registered, just regular priority mail. Instead of starting a new usps [of which there are many here] thread, I just picked one to tag along on. Funny thing is that even the recipient said that the Memphis distribution center is a fustercluck.

If directed to me it wasn't a coin that I shipped. I recall from a few months back that people were complaining about long delays, but some also saying that the packages were eventually delivered so there's some hope.

No excuse for a non-registered to take that long then. And some distribution centers are worse than others. When I worked in the Express Mail department before I retired we always had problems in places like Atlanta. Others always did a decent job.

You'd think that when they scan it in that it goes to a known location in the facility like trash heap A or trash bin 3 so that they have a better idea of where to look should the need ever arise.
