    I love learning new stuff about old coins and new coins as well. There may be different chapters, but it's all one book.

    That is kind of the problem, all kidding aside. When does "modern" start?

    Recently, someone mentioned 1933. Others talk of 1964 or even later. Post world war 2? 20th century on? 21st century?

    Modern: Clad & Zinc.

    Classic: Silver and Copper.

    The forum has been going in one form or another for a couple of decades. The definition of "modern" might be a moving target. :)

    To me modern is anything post 1964.

    To my kids I am Ancient (I like the term Classic better).

    However since they were both born in the 1990's people 21 and younger may well consider my kids to be "so last 20th Century" and thus simply behind the times.

    There are topics among moderns and classics that don't interest me. I skip those threads. I appreciate that everything is in one place because it makes it easier to see what may be of interest. Since my focus is classic I would be much more likely to miss a thread in a modern section, even if it interested me. I like things as they are.

    The interesting thing is that many world & ancient coins are posted in the "World & Ancient Coins Forum" and many world & ancient coins are posted in the US Coin Forum. I think it comes down to where people like chatting more than what coins they like.

    I've known collectors that believe moderns didn't start at dates, it started at the series beginnings. Moderns started at Lincolns, Jeffersons, Roosevelts, Washingtons, Franklins. I don't know what they would do with commemoratives though......................

    Things are slow enough here as it is.

    The NGC forums seemed to be more compartmentalized in it's day and it was awkward.

    For modern US coins the start date imo would be 1965 - move to cupronickel.
