Need opinion on error... is this just a lamination OR something more?
This one has me curious. First glance I thought just a bad lamination peeling off. On on a closer look... the layer that has partially peeled off is actually a fairly thick layer... certainly more that a copper plating (unless the copper plating is actually thicker than I thought). The coin under the layer, as well as the rims, appear to be copper colored. Also the distorted designs features and lettering makes me wonder. Is this a late stage capped die strike?
The outer layer is only present on the coin face itself; and does not appear to be on the rim at all. Perhaps the remaining portion of a late cap die imbedded itself on this coin? Your opinion welcome...

I also notice the coin under the layer appears to be SHARPER than the top layer. (as seen in LIBERTY). A coating of some sort? Perhaps intentionally coated with a metallic substance of some type, in an attempt to 'create' an error? There are some rather fine lines observable on the obverse.
Possibly clear coated and now peeling
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking at this point. Those coatings can do some funky things to a coin.
Looks lacquered, with the substance now coming off

Nail polish or glue.
Thanks for the input. I concur that it is some type of coating. One thing I've found out... sometimes hard to determine some details when just using a magnifier... but when some decent photos get made and displayed, much easier to make out what is actually going on. (and having another set of eyes to look at it).
Now I just need to post it on ebay for some megabucks. (NOT!) lol
Not Ebay, but etsy! 🤣
