Who cares where the date is?
If you are so concerned with it being 'MEDICARE, wouldn't it be more important to have the country name in the front?

It was a joke...ha ha?
Sigh.....
No need to explain it to me but I'm lost as to what this thread is about.
Don’t other countries date their coins? I don’t collect foreign coins so I don’t know and just assumed they did. Are there any countries that don’t date their coinage?
Now they must restore the dates and Mint marks to the obverse of the dollar coins and get them the hell off the edge.
I have not paid attention to any discussion around the date on the obverse vs reverse. But the OP makes me think it has happened.
Washington quarters are my favorite series. In my opinion the date looks better/correct on the obverse. When I receive these quarters in change they definitely stand out better than what came before.
I really do not care where the date is....Though when the date is on the edge, it makes it a tad more difficult for older eyes....Cheers, RickO
Now that I don't have to complain about the date being on the wrong side, can I complain about how it's in an ugly font, too spaced out, and not centered with the bottom of the bust?
Regarding the centering, are you saying that you don't like the way it has always been traditionally? And/or that you wished the would have centered it now?
It's been so long since I saw one that I hadn't really noticed in the past. That said, I think the ugly/thinner font makes it look worse.
Yeah, who thought the edge was a good place for the date?

It is nice to see the original obverse back in service after a 22 year vacation. I never did like the state quarter obverse design.

Yes-something definitely looks "off" on this coin.
It wasn't the date they were specificly worried about. They were trying to declutter the designs on the small dollars so they moved the mottos to the edge and the date/mm were included.
It was the height of absurdity that the Sacagewea design, which was created to include the date, had the date moved to the edge, thereby creating a void in the design.
But it was all congressionally mandated...
As long as the date is on the front or back, I don't care. I really do hate edge dated coins though, and also mint marks on the edge that i need a magnifier to see and I have to hunt for the date and mm like on the dollar coins. Sometimes the mm is so bad that I cannot tell if it is a P or D without a magnifier.
Maybe they removed it from the edge because of one of their new security features? Those reeded edges with a gap/space embedded?
At first both the date/Mint mark and motto were scheduled to be put on the edge but all kinds of hell was raised about the motto so it was never moved. But no such hell was raised about the date/Mint mark so on the edge it remains. That's a shame.
