Cool coins hiding in plain sight

Over the years one picks up random widgets of common coins that make them a little different and a little more interesting. I have always been interested in the big rush to market of the Morgan dollar that they got the number of tail feathers wrong. Lest they anger the Turkey connoisseurs, it triggered an early redesign which are now know as the 7/8 tail feathers which are known a few different ways. While seeking one of those out I came across the Vam 38 which is actually one of the better Doubled dies of the series well behind the 1888-o and 1901. Doubled strongest across Liberty and E pluribus unum. The issue comes flashy and isn’t crazy rare, here is the one I put away a dozen years ago. Just an interesting distraction to a monday

Oh yeah. That looks nice and flashy! I have one 7 over 8 sitting around raw that I found at a shop a number of years ago that wasn't attributed.

It is cool to dig something out of the war chest. I like it!

Nice one!
I joke who would notice one extra tail feather but one of the biggest changes to the trade series was the addition of a 4th finger to the hand that was holding the olive branch. Details matter

it is always nice finding old friends.
I suppose when (and if) I get really old (105 or so
) and have to curtail activities, I will have time to check my coins for varieties not noted at time of purchase. I certainly have a lot to look at. Cheers, RickO
Always nice to cherry-pick your self. 😉💰
Hoard the keys.
And very nice coin.

If you’re checking varieties at 105 you will have around 400k posts and one hell of a magnifying glass. 😆
