I love AU Morgans

MeltdownMeltdown Posts: 9,029 ✭✭✭✭✭

It doesn't make much sense dollar wise, they are (mostly) not rare or scarce and often overpriced based on their mintage and silver content.
Still... I probably have 40 of them over the years I've just picked up for the hellofit,
Just yesterday I found myself walking out the shop with these 3 - I don't need them but I sure do like them.
Feel free to post your own junk dollars.

    ...could this lead to love?

Overall I'm not fond of AU Morgans, the scruffy fields that are almost always seen with the AU grade are not a look I favor.

I like circulated Carson City minted dollars. It is the imagined history of a coin that was used in then-contemporary commerce that fascinates me. ...especially since I live on land once owned by a man who came to Virginia City in 1863....and whose son worked at the Carson City mint in the late '80s through about 1892. In fact, I recently purchased some Carson City "culls" at the Northern Nevada Coin shop in Carson City....nothing numismatically impressive, but personally appealing due to the historical context.

@jedm... You are correct sir!! Purchased it for a nominal fee out of a local antique shop... just to get it off the market. Cheers, RickO

Just curious... did you let the vendor know it was fake?

Interesting... Only once have I ever spotted a fake at a table. It was actually at a gun show. The vendor had a pretty beat up "1877 IHC" priced at $800. It had the bold N reverse, so unless it was a circulated Proof it was likely counterfeited. I handed it back to the vendor and simply said "good luck with that".

This one is now PCGS AU53 1B1 Thornhead. I called it 1B4A. I’m not sure which is right 1B1 or 1B4A 🤔
