A Cool Vintage NGC Styrofoam Box

SouthcountySouthcounty Posts: 681 ✭✭✭✭

When was the last time you saw one of these old vintage NGC Styrofoam boxes? Or have you ever seen one before now? My neighbor actually gave me this box, he was an old time coin dealer. I actually used to see, and review, his advertisements in various coin magazines when I was a kid and was lucky enough to move next to him.

It would look good full of black holders.

They must be very fragile so that's not surprising.

Interesting sideways slab positioning. I like it! Peace Roy

Yes, but tough to find. I passed on one on ebay and regret it.

I don't recall ever having seen one of those. Are they circa 1987 when NGC was just starting to grade?

That is the first one I have seen. Have heard them mentioned before, but not shown. Likely not as durable as the new plastic boxes. Cheers, RickO

I've only seen one in person and it was missing a chunk. Super cool.

First I have seen of that type, nice that some still survive! Very cool.

Looks like it holds 15 slabs maybe?

Wow, that is neat. I haven't seen that before... love those white labeled Morgans too.

Nice display. Do you believe the slabs caused the slight rim toning? It would be fun to see an exact photo from that many years ago.

I had to go check but 13, it shows on the picture from 78saen. I am loving his old white holder coins in the Styrofoam box, we have a nice vintage theme going now. White holder collectors need to find one of these boxes and fill them up!

Interesting. Inside of a sturdy cardboard box, this would probably protect coins a little better than the modern boxes. It would also be quieter, which is something that bothers me carrying coins in and out of shows.
