The Prodigal Fish Scale Returns....has this ever happen to you?

HalfDimeDudeHalfDimeDude Posts: 1,206 ✭✭✭✭✭

About 30 months ago I purchased an 1859 III silver , I paid up alittle as I liked the coin and the 1859 is a low mintage....of only 364,200 with 800 proof strikes.
Well the coin went missing.... and for the life of me I couldn't put my hands on it. Now let me explain that I am not the type to forget something that I put someplace even if its like 10 years ago! Like a tool around the house, I may not be organized, but yeah if I needed that tool I be like oh yeah its there.
I can also recall whom I purchased from the date purchased and whom from.
Well except this Prodigal 3 cent sliver piece.
I had lead myself to believe that #1 it was taken at a show I was working, or #2 it slipped off the desk rolled under and the vacuum sucked it up and again gone forever to the dump.

Well its been bugging the living daylights out of me! I truly loved the coin , and had all but gi en up hopes of ever finding it again.
Well for its and giggles, I had a revelation this morning driving ho,d from the doctors office, you see I have a wooden tool box the sortma watch maker or Jewler would have to hold tgeir tools. The top drawer in not that high, and I just thought hey, after lunch I'm going up pull out all the drawers.and see if its there! BINGO!
My prodigal fish scale layed in the back still in the 2x2 and flip!

Care to share a reunion of a lost coin now found?
Ok that's my story let's hear yours!

I had a Mexican 1/2 real listed for sale on eBay. It was in a flip that was cut in half so there was just the one pocket. Based on how the coins were organized, it was the first coin in a double row box which was kept with the lid on the bottom since I was in and out of it all the time. Once a year, I go over all my eBay listings and confirm that I can locate the coins, but I couldn't find the 1/2 real. Looked through the whole box and took everything out of it in case the flip was laying flat and had coins stacked on top. No luck, couldn't find it so I ended the listing. A couple of years later, the box was starting to come apart at the corner so I took the lid off the bottom to repair it and there it was- the 1/2 real. I must have put it back in the box one time between the outside of the box and the inside of the lid but how it managed to get down into the lid under the box is a complete mystery to me.

I lost an UNC (raw, airtite) 1903 indian head cent, along with an MS64 1881-S and 1884-O DMPL Morgan dollars (also in airtites) back in July 2020.

In September 2020 I found them on my moms dresser, wrapped in a napkin. No idea how they got there.

I have told the story of my 'lost' 1909D $5 gold Indian.... Somehow - I will never figure out how - it got into a storage box of ammunition.... lost for about three years, until I had reason to pull the box out when looking for some specific cartridges. There it was ... all alone, lonely - but overjoyed to see me again. Now it stays by my computer. ;) Cheers, RickO

I would love to find my 1884-S Morgan Dollar that I purchased around 1990 while I was stationed in The Netherlands. I hope that it is still in a fire-resistant box that was packed up when I moved to my next assignment in Florida, which was not unpacked. I presently have a double garage full of moving boxes which I need to sort through...one of these days.

Not a coin but a ring. Tore my bedroom apart and never could find it. Purchased another ring 2 years later and decided to clean in. There the other one sat, in the jewelry cleaner. Doh!

I've run into an 1806/5 bust quarter I used to own a couple of times now. I bought it raw in the early 90's and had it slabbed by PCI where it graded VG10. I sold it in the late 90's or very early 2000's. It's been in a PCGS VG8 holder the last couple of times I've seen it, most recently about 5 years ago or so...
