1798 Large cent

Was looking at this for a hole filler. Was thinking the value around $50 to $60.

    Seems solid

    You would be better off leaving the hole empty.

    For a bit more, you could get a problem free, evenly worn About Good or Good example of that date.

    I think it depends what your collecting goals are. If your goal is to complete a set of Early Dates by the end of summer, you're well on your way... 1798s come around often enough in lower grades that I'd opt for one without the scratches.

    Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;

    That could 'fill the hole' if that is your objective.... There are better coins available for just a bit more $. Your collection, your money, your choice. Cheers, RickO
