To get better pictures, be in front of better coins...

Joe McNally, a world renowned photographer, once had a line in a blog post that has always resonated with me:
"As my friend and fellow shooter Jim Richardson says, if you want your pictures to be better, stand in front of more interesting stuff."
It helped me in one sentence to better understand why I liked some of the pictures I was taking over others. The same sentiment also works with coin photography. If you want your coin pictures to look good then take pictures of good looking coins. So show off those good/better/interesting shots of good looking coins.

nice coin.
great sharpness, presentation, luster bands (good lights/placement) and more!
Thanks! It’s a Fairmont coin so it’s been untouched by coin doctors thus far. There’s just something about the silky smooth of gold luster that’s very appealing! I had to pay up to get it, too.

Better photography has little to do with subject matter although it may have more people say wow because of the subject matter.
Better photography has everything to do with the use of light assuming all technical issues such as focus are perfect.
I get what you’re saying but the essence is about the interestingness of the subject not so much the technical matter. As has been said many times, a poor technique of a great subject is far more engaging than the great technique of a poor subject.
Every National Park has viewpoints with exceptional scenery.
Thousand of photos are taken from these exact spots every single day.
You have all seen photos from these spots, but the images that stand out all of exceptional lighting.
@ErrorsOnCoins I suspect we probably agree a lot more than we would disagree.
Both are needed for the best pictures but having a great subject can make all the difference.
It seems to me (not an accomplished photographer - yet to qualify as an amateur), that all the ingredients are necessary for a great picture... Subject, equipment, lighting, skills.... Though I did get one great picture when I lived in Puerto Rico... totally by accident.
Cheers, RickO
It does help, some coin are more photogenic than others.
