NO STICKERS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

PickwickjrPickwickjr Posts: 558 ✭✭✭✭✭

I purchased a nice Morgan’s dollar for my daughter and received it yesterday. My daughter was very excited to open the package. She pulls out the coin and said WOW. Dad this ones really nice. I asked if it had cartwheels and she was like oh yeah.
So she was pumped to added it to the collection. I was really excited for her, to boot it was an old fatty holder.

So she went to do her homework and I went to pull off the dealers sticker. Needless to say I was very disappointed.
So the purpose of this post to to ask everyone not to put a sticker over the label. I’m sure you can get smaller stickers and put them elsewhere. It’s the little thing but it matters to many collectors.
Thanks

    And use removable stickers, too.

For a split second I thought this was going to be a CAC thread. ;)

That was my purpose of the title, to get everyone’s attention. Hopefully it will work.
I know it’s a minor thing but as a collector it aggravates me. It’s a negative when you flip the coin over even though the coin is incredible.

Ouch!! Too bad about that... I use GooGone to remove any extraneous stickers.... Cheers, RickO

That’s a big disappointment. In a market where certain older slabs command premiums, you’d think the dealer would know better. Hopefully they see this thread. On the bright side at least it happened to an inexpensive common date Morgan and not a draped bust gold $5...

There's an easier, more direct way to let the seller know. ;)

You might get more eyes on the thread from those who like CAC discussions. But you might also lose lots of others, who don't care for such topics.

I've had that happen to me in the past. There was a serious problem with the full width hologram on the old no-line fatty NGC slabs---pull a sticker off and the hologram comes off with it.

Even some of those get hard over time. Thankfully I use very small stickers. This conversation came up with some of my long time customers and low and behold mine had become a problem also. :s Dang, so I went and vented/bitched at my supplier! :#

Wetting the sticker with Goo Gone for a while may help save the hologram from getting pulled off.

Goo Gone hardly phases some of those that have been on a long time. One thing I never tried was lighter fluid, which I understand works better with no ill consequences as long as your are aware of the risks and don't start a fire! :o

That happened to me too! I told the seller and, fortunately, they corrected their sticker placement. It is very aggravating so I understand your frustration.

    Try using a hair dryer.

I used it the other day to remove a shipping sticker from a box

And, I agreed, I hate it when I see a nice coin with the label screwed up.

Because of some dealer's stupid sticker. ugh.

I totally agree with The Heritage statement.
The sticker was a fresh one.
Yes the dealer has been notified.
    Thanks

    Ugh...

I can feel your disappointment. In my experience, I have always very carefully and very slowly attempted to remove such stickers with as little force as possible. It sometimes works and it sometimes doesn't.

I hate that! :( I don't understand why they choose to put it on the hologram... You have all this room around it, yet they choose the hologram to put the sticker... :s

Lighter fluid works just as well, if not better.

I pass on a lot of NGC coins with partial labels like that. To me, the coin needs to be reholdered. The slab is damaged. Hopefully, some people will get the message. I know there are smaller stickers out there, even for bar codes.

I don’t think there is anyway out of that mess. Hologram material is weaker than the sticker glues. I’ve passed on coins because of that. Having a close to perfect old holder just adds another level to the hunt for the right coin in the right holder.

You will probably get more from those who do not like CAC. They can't stay away!
