If you had that coin out a coin show someone would eventualy hand you a $20 bill and say I'll buy that! :#

I'll go $11.25 million hammer. They are going to want to get over $10 million.

I’m looking forward to the auction. I think most people would expect it to go over $10Mil. I’ll say $13.5Mil all in. What the heck?!

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

I put a poll on instagram with this same question. Prices varied from 10-20 million evenly spread across the range. I'm going 17 million realized with buyer's fee. It will be quite a show for the 99.999% of us that won't ever be able to own it.

In normal times I would have said 10-15 mil.

My current thinking is that this is a chance for a few extremely wealthy non coin collectors to bid on a one of a kind item.

The goal is to own the best in a time when bubbles seem to be everywhere.

I guess we'll know soon enough.

If a lebron James rookie card can go for $5.2 million, I’ll venture this gets $15 million. Infinitely more important and interesting.

That seems to imply that you don’t think you’d be outbid.

$12M all in is what I’d pay. $12M hammer is my prediction.

There is some new crazy wealth around... I'm guessing it might be more of an art collector or collective than a coin collector who's willing to do the crazy bid... $16.8 million.
Is there going to be a prize for this...maybe a custom forum badge, "Best Crazy Auction Bid Guess on a Technically Illegal Coin"!

    What a great idea!

We can form an SPAC and then sell it at auction again. :o:* This time as an NFT B):#>:)

edited to add: technically non-illegal perhaps?

Personally I'd like to see it go for 12 mil. and TDN win it. I'd much rather prefer to see a collector win it than some billionaire who doesn't own any other coins.

Considering the multiple government stimulus packages that have occurred since the Pandemic started, the trillions of newly created dollars injected into the economy have gone somewhere, including into the asset base of the very wealthy (multi billionaires).

It will be interesting to see if wealthy non collectors choose to bid on the 1933 DE and pay well north of 10 million dollars to purchase what they view is a historical artifact that they can impress their friends with.

I doubt if it will attract much interest from non-coin collectors. In the end it is just a very small piece of gold with a date collectors consider to be "special". I can't see art collectors caring about it in the least.

I wonder if someone will try to buy it with cryptocurrency. A certain multi-billionaire seems to be trying to hype cryptocurrency. How many lemmings are out there?

I personally am not excited about it at all. I am more interested in seeing what the unique foreign stamp will bring.

I also won't be surprised if the block of upside down "Jennies" brings a disappointing result.

    All glory is fleeting.

Its an unusual setup in an interesting marketplace with social and economic abnormalities.

I believe the probability is higher (maybe noticeably higher) that a non-collector will be more interested in this coin than practically any other. Having acknowledge it, the overwhelming probability is still that a current collector will buy it.

I see comparisons to far more expensive art occasionally but it's not an equivalent comparison. These items are either far more prominent or (IMO), likely passing fads that will ultimately crash and burn. The most expensive art is a tiny fraction of the number of items sold anyway.

A more legitimate comparison would be to artworks below this ultra expensive tier. As one example, the creations of St. Guadens. Based upon the one search I performed when the UHR thread was active, it doesn't appear that even one is worth anywhere near either coin.

I "liked" this on the $20 and the crypto-currency angles, but disagree on the Jennies. They're more iconic for a hobby that had much greater affordability and, consequently, a much broader base for collectors when we Boomers were absorbing our zeitgeist. A lot of the baby billionaires in their mid 50's might still not even have a "deuce" but there are a thousand individuals who would recognize a Jenny for each that would Oooh and Aaah over a '33 $20.

The British Guiana One-Penny Magenta will later be revealed to have been bought by some post-colonialist potentate spitting in the eye of the now demonstrably-impotent Brits. It will prove to be a worse investment than Salvator Mundi >:)

My impression is that most British billionaires are former Russian oligarchs and current oil princes. Apparently Guiana does not have enough exploitable natural resources for Big Money to write the stamp off as a capital expense. There are easier ways to skim. Though the Chinese might buy it and build a road or two on spec.

This last may be the product of a delayed reaction to my 2nd Pfizer shot or two novels I read last November. :#

Several years ago. possibly at a Pittsburgh show, a Secret Service Agent stated, in a formal presentation, that the Treasury Dept already knew where one '33 is and had no plans to seize it. I think everyone from the Jurassic period knows the Browning coin is out there too, just not where the current owner (?) is keeping it.
