Attempt the impossible? GTG (grade posted)

Cold and wet here in the DC. Anyone want to attempt the impossible and grade early copper in an early holder from poor pictures?

I will leave the grading to Mark...
And his assessment looks reasonable to me. Cheers, RickO
I will go along with Mark here and say 63BN.
AU50. Obvious wear on the high points.
Yikes, I don't agree with the above AU - look again at the obverse. The coin has obvious weak strike at rim on reverse at 5 o'clock; this is true at other areas of rim. The central devices on obverse (ie bust of Lib) looks great & I will go the middle course at 61.
Well, just Love coins, period.
AU53
50
58...I don’t see it as MS
55
64BN
There’s now a 14 point spread between the low and high guesses. Surely, you couldn’t have hoped for more fun than that!

Just for fun let's make it a 15 point spread and say MS-65.
I am not going to lie and say I didn’t pick a challenging coin on purpose. I will add that no one has nailed it yet even if some of the more seasoned eyes are very close. I’ll drop the grade this afternoon

It is a coin I would pass on regardless of the grade. 1852 is a very common date and the strike issues with that coin are considerable. I don't like coins with weak strike issues.
MS 62 BN with rim hit.
Au55
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
Hedging my bets here... I'll say 62 as well...
...I initially thought 58, but a mushy strike has me thinking MS...

AU58.
My limited experience and examples owned indicates they were really tough on large cents in the rattler holder days.
64 BN and lovely
Watch it be in a 45 holder! I wouldn't be surprised being it's an old holder.
I’ll guess the holder says 45
Jinx
I think I see a bit of wear in hair above the ER in Liberty. AU58 BN
bob
i haven't seen a 62 guess yet, so i'll go with that.
There were only two MS62 guesses before yours.😉

I'll guess low mint state.
I'm with Mark on this one as a Brown Unc. But anything 55 to 64 BN seems feasible from that period. Even PCGS wasn't all that consistent on these back then. One day you could get AU and the next time in MS. The fields are not broken and the cheek is rounded and full. I would ignore all the flat striking issues on the hair, stars, leaves, etc.
Doesn't look UNC to me. I'll guess 40 just because no one's taken it yet. Second guess would be 53 for the same reason...
It is always interesting when a professional guesses first and sets the tone for the rest of the guesses especially when they are basically correct, a choice UNC net graded for strike

OK, I wouldn't quit my day job.......... if I still had one. LOL.
The surfaces are very clean, few nicks or bag marks, for a MS62 coin. I feel there is slight wear on the high points so I feel it is a nice AU58, and in hand probably has nice luster except for on a few high points. The TPGs will market grade AU58s up to MS62 when they feel the coin is worth more than a 58 and I feel this is what they did here.

Wow. Glad I didn't embarrass myself.
My gut was 58, closer look I went 62. Nice coin, love the rattler.

Or, it could just as easily be a choice unc. example that was downgraded, due to a soft strike and some reverse rim digs.

That's true. It all depends on where the grader sees the coin in hand. Is it Mint State or is it very slightly circulated? If they feel it is truly Mint State then they can adjust from there taking into account strike, amount of luster, marks, etc. But if they feel it has just a touch of wear on the high spots and is AU58, but if they feel it is really nice and is worth more, they will sometimes call them MS62. Since all we have to go with is the pictures provided by the OP, we each make our initial assessment and go from there. With the coin in hand I could have a much different opinion.

If you graded this coin 55 or lower, consider joining EAC.
The application of your skill set has much lower effectiveness in the genre of more recently developed evaluation protocols.
