In looking closely, there seems to be just enough obverse portrait tics/marks that would make 65 an optimistic call. It does have attractive color. I am more concerned about the reverse fields where die polish is heavy. While the color is attractive, there could be a few hits/hairlines that remain hidden. This is an attractive example... I would rather have a coin with this look than one that technically grades higher but does not have "the look"
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
64 to 64+ ... The marks on the nose and forehead, the tick on the cheek, these would be more obvious and count more if the coin was white. The toning is very pleasing without being exciting.
30% crack-out shot for an NGC MS65.

@Higashiyama , that's why I said almost no one got it... the @ColonelJessup absolutely gets extra credit for his half call lol
here you go.
The nicks on face are truly miniscule, not as somewhat prominent as the scans - great color and luster as many noted - I can see it in a 65 holder - def a keeper for me.
Excellent coin.
I have reviewed the comments and the pics several times.
I have to say. I agree with the grade. I was actually trying to be contrarian, as usual, but I just cant.
I love it.
I would have guess less just seeing this now, but am not shocked. I have a MS62 in a old ANACS white chase holder that pops with about the same colors at a slight angle and the same level of of contact marks.

Nice Lafayette!
USAF (Ret) The purpose of Bourbon is to make you feel like you should feel WITHOUT Bourbon. Remembering RickO, a brother in arms.
65.

Very nice!
I'd guess 64 as well.
Several hits on the bust but dang.
That is much nicer than you usually run across.
MS63
MS-63, I like it.

That’s a very beautiful Lafayette! If it were available for MS64 money, I would buy it in an instant.
So, I’ll go with MS65.
Obverse 1, Reverse C???

MS62, but looks 63.
Ms62
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
2-C and a nice one
For those who say 62, can you explain what so severely limits the grade?
Grading it like I would a Morgan, I would go 63.
The Lafayette Dollar is very difficult to grade. This is a very attractive example. 63 seems reasonable.

From images, it seems almost impossible. Looking through Coinfacts, I think I can rationalize three groupings:
BU: MS62-63
Choice: MS63+ to MS65
Gem: MS65+ and above
Very hard to rationalize the numbers within each group.

I wanna say I've seen this coin somewhere before but I'm in the 64 camp
MS63.... Tics on portrait, in fields and weak reverse. Cheers, RickO
Luster looks good, but the marks on Washington limit it to 63, IMO.

I have one like that graded 62.
MS 62 ...attractive look (a few hits and by my interpretation of the photo, the luster isn't enough for a higher grade)
63, possibly a + for color
Pretty coin... MS 62+

Thanks for all the comments, this was fun and these guesses are good, but almost no one got it perfectly right.
Here is another chance to sway your thoughts.
Then I'll post the grade late tonite or tomm morning.

Wow, that's a tantalizing statement!
The guesses so far are as follows:
62 ----- 4
62+ -- 1
63 ------ 6
63+ ---- 0
64 ------ 6 1/2
64 + --- 1/2
65 ------ 3
So, the consensus is a solid 63. I'd tend to the think the TrueVIew might increase the guesses a bit.
Since no one got it perfectly right, but @ColonelJessup put it at 64 to 64 +, I will guess that @marcmoish's hint is telling us the grade is 64+.
I just looked it up. It even has a bean! Based on the photos, not a coin I would buy at that grade, but I'm very picky.

Beautiful coin!
Really nice coin! Those are so often hideous but that one is very pretty.
