A blazing red, super GEM example of the 23rd Massachusetts Regiment Sutler token. Compare to the uncerified example that sold tonight as Stack for nearly the same price:
For those unfamiliar, a sutler was a vendor that followed the regiment in his wagon, providing goods and comforts to the soldiers of the regiment at a price. They were basically the forerunner of the post exchanges that exist to this day.
This was struck by renowned Civil War die sinker, Joseph H Merriam of Bkston. You would be hard pressed to find a prettier example of this variety. Opportunity knocks...

An unusual piece which I've never ran across before. It was struck by the famous Philadephia die sinker, W. H. Key. Depicts Rev. William Otterbein on the obverse and a church on the reverse, commemorating 100 years of its founding. Struck in white metal, very thick, and about the size of a silver dollar.

Pleasing brown with very clean fields and minimal marks. The obverse lays out the tools of the trade for brewing in the 19th Century. This is the scarcest composition for the type, Dr. Benjamin P. Wright once described the Rueter & Alley tokens as “among the rarest American cards.” Rueter & Alley was the largest ale and porter brewery in the US during the 1870s and was in operation until prohibition.

Here is a great piece of Americana that always draws a lot of interest from regular coin collectors and exonumia enthusiasts alike. It is also featured in Q. David Bowers' "100 greatest tokens and Medals."
During the 19th Century, "the Weed" most assuredly meant tobacco, as the reverse suggests with its interlocking pipes. This was probably the intended marriage of dies as JNT Levick's business address is listed.

Lovely, lustrous beauty with the irrestible image of a bunny rabbit on the obverse, a play on words with the owner's last name..."Haas" and "Haschen," the German word for "rabbit," get it? Very popular token with the rare Carl Haas storecard reverse die. This one is usually encountered with the Indian, so another rare opportunity presents itself here on this thread.

This is an interesting piece with three counterstamps on the reverse. From Heritage: Letters in relief within ribbon-style depression. This is a Jefferson County, Kentucky brass token with a stylish mark for Baldwin & Co. The counterstamp die was made for one of their watchcase patents -- or perhaps for a simultaneous bank vault patent -- all granted on April 13, 1858. Ex: Dorge Auction (6/1974), lot 1233

Really amazing overstrike in which the viewer will note as you rotate the coin, the Indian from the host coin appears and disappears only to be replaced by the Indian on the token. Kind of like an Escher drawing, the two are looking in opposite directions but are seemingly two faces on one head. Struck over an uncommon date (1862) as most CWTs utilized 1863 cents.

Here is an example of a personal storecard from the preeminent Boston die sinker of Civil War Tokens, Joseph H. Merriam. This is the same Merriam that struck the most famous Civil War Token of all, the "Good For a Scent" token. His work is recognized for its elegance and high quality.
This variety is a lot rarer than the Good For A Scent, and even more so in brass. These are usually encountered with spots. This one is top pop at both services, and virtually perfect.
