Self slabbing

Do any of you self slab (Coin World slabs, etc.) some of your better pieces that the TPG's won't do or it's not worth having graded? I'm thinking of doing it for aesthetic reasons to go with my graded coins. Some of the items I want to self slab are Hobo Nickels, Hennings Nickels, and Love Tokens.
If you do self slab, it's time to come out of the closet. LET'S SEE 'EM!!

No, but have been thinking about them from the same aesthetic reasons.
They are cheap enough and attractive enough.

I have self slabbed many of my coins that I like, but are not worth sending to a TPG. You can add a label if desired, or, like most of mine, the coin speaks for itself. Cheers, RickO
I haven't yet but am going to soon.
I have several coins in my type set that are nearly impossible to find already graded.
09 vdb in VF 30 for example.
It is frustrating having a combination of slabs and 2x2's in a slab box.
Whatever works.
I do ...for the same reason that has been expessec above not worth the money to have a coin come back details....as a seated and half dime collector one needs to expect thst the specimen has been wiped or dipped at least 1 time in its life time. The slab posted is compatible with pcgs slabs so the fit together, you can also find slabs that fit with ngc type slabs.
I will plug Wizard coin supplies in Va. As they have good pricing ,great service, and inventory shipping has caused me to wait and place an order that makes it cost effective to ship.

I have a few old ANACS sized slabs from way back that have some die clash coins in them. I don’t have many loose coins that aren’t already in an album or a slab that are worth putting into a self slab but I may buy some for fun later.
I ordered a few from Wizard (thru eBay) just to see how I like them, but from the comments I'm reading here I should've just stocked up.
I've been using the Lighthouse brand, mostly for inexpensive tokens that I need to organize. The only thing I don't like about Lighthouse is the label template is clunky and hard to use.

I agree on their labels are useless notice I used a p touch machine to make my lables.
It works very well...the only issues it takes pratice to print and cut the tape so you dont waste tape. The p touch machine a $30 or less machine is well worth the money....I went through some old 2x2's that i used the old hand held label maker that would emboss the letters and numbers i the plastic tape...A 1960's label maker...having a brain fart...I cannot recall the name but it did begin with the letter P .....lol

Oh BTW I also use the cardboard slab boxes from Wizard to house my slabs...they are cheap well constructed, fit well in my safes, I use the large double row,and as well the single row slab box.
Imhave a ton of pcgs plastic boxes that take up more space than the cardboard do, they hold less slabs...and dont stack! Its a no brainer... 60 to 70 slabs in 1 box makes sense...than having all those plastic boxes that take up more space and the lids arent secure.

I KNOW that it does not start with a "P", but I would like to guess anyway.
DYMO?
Yes duh you win a cigar..lol you're correct...

Is anyone here planning to self-slab a 19th Century type set in MS70?

I have all of my Morgans and Peace Dollars in Coinworld Holders, labeled with the VAM number and housed in Eagle Slab Pages in numerous 4 inch three-ring binders. Also have a set of Ikes and SBAs housed in the same manner. I think it makes a nice display (and slabbed coins fit in with them nicely).
Dansco could be a nice alternative for a focused collection.
Got too many 2x2's and storage boxes to fill...lol
I either get around to grading them or selling them in a 2x2, but certainly see the appeal.

I also use Lighthouse Quickslabs. Not sure what label template is being referred to above. I hand-write details on the included paper slips (used front and back). I think they're great - they fit in the same boxes as my PCGS and other slabs. Easily found on Amazon and elsewhere.

I have never done it myself but did purchase a Morgan from a member here many years ago in one of those coin world slabs.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Do the Lighthouse Quickslabs have a logo embossed on them as the Coin World slabs do?
So in 2003 I was accumulating inexpensive coins that really weren't worth the cost or effort of slabbing -- mostly circulated VAMs. I decided that putting them in Coin World holders was a good idea at the time. I had also just acquired an Intel Play microscope. These were all the rage among collectors at the time, as they were cheap and easy to use. There was even a website dedicated to mods for these $30 microscopes. If you used them in the monochrome setting at medium magnification using a flashlight through the clear blue plastic, they actually produced pretty good 512x384 pictures. I then thought to myself, "Self, making a label of a VAM that would fit inside the Coin World holders would be pretty cool." I quickly decided that doing it using Word or Excel was going to be a pain in the neck, so I built a relational database in Access, wrote a couple thousand likes of C++ code, and within a couple weeks had myself a program that made the labels for me. So I made up some labels for my coins, showed them to someone else, and he wanted his coins labeled, too.
A few years later, I was doing them for other people, then expanded my software to make stickers for TPG slabs. I order the silver dollar Coin World holders by the case and have a few of some other sizes sitting around in case someone sends me a different type to attribute. Within the next couple weeks, I'll have done my 20,000th coin. Here's the one that started it.

Not really sure what you mean but you can check them out here:https://www.lighthouse.us/rectangular-coin-capsules-quickslab.html
(And now I understand the template comment...)

See them all over ebay and wondered about these.
Thanks for the info.

Exactly. I do the same. I have Word templates for the labels as such-

I self-slab my Hobo Nickels.

I use Lighthouse Quickslabs and I like them. Peace Roy

I prefer Saflips for my raw coins. They take up far less storage room and a lot of information can be written on the card placed in the second pocket of the flip.

It’s not a logo but they do say Quickslab or Everslab on the side.
I have used both the Lighthouse Quickslab (easy to reopen) and Everslab (hard to reopen) for some promo slabs and inexpensive coins. Below are a few, including one where I used an NGC insert.
I would not waste my time and space w self slabbing. Throw them back in the roll, flip, or 2x2.
every slap you fellows have pictured here has one major issue.

Nothing can be read unless you pull an individual unit an ich out of the box.
A Canadian TPG, ICCS, has this problem solved withh great success.
I am not sure if he has a design patent on it, ???
the slabs are easy to read and at a glance you know exactly whats inside.
Nice. The white ones look like what the Smithsonian uses.
Of note, an Everslab seller provides the following warning:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/322551465174?
It's also solved by ANACS and SEGS in the US.
I'm really hoping for the big 2 to do this.
Early versions of my slabs, including the one shown, had the top edge readable. SEGS complained and asserted it was a patent infringement on their design. I didn't think it was, but it wasn't worth spending money on an attorney, so I took it off. By the time SEGS's patent expired, Coin World changed their slabs so that a top-reading label wouldn't work.
Maybe they do, maybe they don't, but it would be on the entire package, not the top-reading concept. SEGS, and before that CompuGrade are both established prior-art in this resepct.

I typically send my Dan Carr issues to ANACS for grade/slab. His 1921-2021 Centennial 2 oz .999 silver commemoratives for the Peace and Morgan were return as 'too large for the holder', so I self-slabbed them.
Here is the obverse of the DC 1921-2021 Peace Centennial.
(for size reference, the obverse and reverse of the coin image struck in the center are the same diameter as the original.)

They don't look too big to me.
Perhaps they are too small for the ANACS gaskets?
I'm guessing too small for the 5oz gasket, too big for the ASE gasket.

I’ve been using CW holders for civil war store cards that either haven’t been submitted or just aren’t worth slabbing. I like the similar size as a slab for ease of storage in sequence by Fuld number as well as the similar look when Exhibiting. Kinda went overboard with label info.
Labels are simply text in MSWord.
