A cool strike through on an Indian Head Cent.

I won this in an ebay auction some years ago. The photos weren't very good, and there was no mention of the strike through in the description. It has excellent luster, not sure about the color though, might've had some MS70 applied to it.

Need a Barber Half with ANACS photo certificate. If you have one for sale please PM me. Current Ebay auctions

Looks like it struck through a piece of thread

To my eye im not seeing a strike thru....platchet flaw or die crack... the area looks to thin to be a strike thru.... ask Fred Weinburg to take a look I value his opion.

look at the first post... he was the first to respond

Opps my bad I didn't see Freds reply ,however ill disagree with him as its way to thin to make that deep and large of a crack on a coin....Wire maybe... cloth cotton thread no way sorry.

It's incuse so it can't be a die crack. If it was PMD, the line wouldn't flow seamlessly across the devices from the cheek to the hair curl to the ribbon.

Struck-through thread/fiber is a relatively common error. The indentation on this IHC not that deep, so it seems reasonable, based on the shape, to assume that it was struck through some type of fiber.

I couldn’t tell you how common thin wire was back then and whether it was used in any equipment at the Mint, but that seems like the less likely scenario.
