Hi guys, yes, while searching through rolls of half dollars I found this mystery coin? Is this PMD or something else? Remember, this is a NIFC coin. Not too much in the wild. Meaning, highly unlikely to be caused by a coin machine? Yes or No? Thank you, guys. What great condition too!

That’s damage to the edge of the coin

It is not a partial collar.

I am guessing the remnants of the reeding in the damaged area is the tell?

BTW, great photos, but I can't figure out what part of the car's interior it was taken on. :o:p

I would have to agree with damage.

Here's something that may be of use.... Bust halfs have a very unique 3rd side filled with lots of varieties. I hope this image can be of use to you. Its a list of errors in edge lettering on the bust half dollars.

Thank you for this guide but aren't these only for the "edge lettering " coins? Mine is not an edge lettering.
What guide is this anyway. Very cool guide. Thanks ;)

Referring to the last post. Could there be a slight possibility that my coin was mistakenly placed in a machine for the edge lettering coins? Such as the President's or Sacagawea's? Same year being done? :*

I believe the edge lettering die for business strikes is set at a fixed distance. A half wouldn't fit. I agree with others that it's PMD

If you read my post you will see that I am referring to edge errors on bust halfs....not Kennedy or modern coinage. Your post is genetic as it talking about the 3rd edge of the coin. My post was to pass on the information that most do not knows it exist. I know of no referencez as such on other coins with lettered edges....other than modern dollars. I do not collect any coins past 1964...so that said have little or no interest in such minor varieties or errors.
