Spend it on some ice cream and let somebody else handle it.

Sure! Great Idea! Just like the chick who spent them in 1894!

Ink erasers also do a good job! ;)

Wow! One of only 6. Great addition. Be easy with the steel wool, only dab it. ;)

There's no documentation that anyone spent one (much less "them", as in plural) in 1894. And even if one was spent at that time, it wouldn't have been done by a young chicken.

So why does pcgs price guide not have a slot of the 1894-s 10c?

They didn't know anyone could afford one.

From what I heard from the coin show podcast, the mint director gave his daughter some of these dimes, and told her to save them, and she spent them on the way home at the grocery store for ice cream.

A sweat bath of hydrochloric acid should do the trick. Your whole coin may completely dissolve but it’s ok, at least the tarnish will be gone. 👍

What I heard (which is like 257th hand hersay, was that she spent $1 of them. Which after reading, seems to be that she only got 3. There were 2 circulated examples so...)

Actually that’s a good idea might shake off some of that surface tarnish, might make your coin a little flatter and dented but it don’t really matter, as long as the tarnish is gone, lol 😂

I know. I was originally going to use sandpaper power tools on it, but I decided it might damage the coin. I decided to run it over with a tank!

Well the highest grade of sand paper are the rough treads of a 10 ton tank.

Back in that time (1894) a dime for an ice cream cone would have resulted in about 7 cents change. I know the story is unverified myth, but I thought I would add to it..... ;) Heck an ice cream cone was ten cents when I was a kid...Cheers, RickO
