Deion VS Bo Jackson Collect-ability
I'm curious the board's take on why Bo is so much more collectable than Deion.
Bo was a slightly better baseball player
Deion was a much more accomplished football player
Bo's collectible seem to be on fire all the time, I never hear a peep about Deion's stuff.
Is there a Deion renaissance coming one day when a 30/30 comes out?

I feel that the world was cheated when Bo Jackson was injured because he was such an incredible athlete. He just had so much going for him. Deion was fast and a fantastic cover guy, but Bo was fast, powerful and did things we had rarely seen before with his wall-climbing catches, towering home runs, cannon-like throws, snapping bats over his knee, bursts of speed and power in football. People stopped what they were doing to watch Bo Jackson play because at any moment he might do something spectacular.
In addition, the Nike "Bo Knows" campaign made him one of the most popular athletes in the world at that time. I think a lot of age 40+ collectors have very fond memories of Bo Jackson that they don't necessarily have for Deion Sanders, though Deion was incredible in his own way. Also, I think Deion turned off a lot of people with his "Neon Deion" act.
None of that is fact, but just my feelings on the subject.

DPeck the tecmo is classic. I ran around with Bo and Payton too but never this wild. Memories of 1992.

The 1990 score Bo card was one of my favorites. I think there was a rumor that Score was being sued for the picture by Nike. I don’t think it was true though.
Bo was a cultural phenomenon, truly iconic, even if only briefly. He’s the sporting equivalent of a James Dean or Jimi Hendrix, cut down too early by injury.
Deion was great in his own right and had a strong public personae but never came close to touching Bo. Frankly no one else from that era comes close to Bo for cultural relevance except Jordan.
It also probably didn’t help Deion that he played corner instead of something flashier.

I just liked Bo the person MUCH better than Deion. And I agree, I think the 'what might have been' aspect of Bo is what intrigues most collectors.
This post nails it. If you were a kid during those “Bo Knows..” years you just get it. Bo was HUGE and everywhere in pop culture. My best friend at time was a huge basketball fan and big HS player. Barely liked any other sports. I will never forget him telling me that Bo is the greatest athlete on the planet. Coming from him, that was a huge statement.
Whether he was at any point or not, his persona was larger than life.

Heard someone make the argument Ainge was the greatest overall athlete in modern American sport. Some staggering stats across multiple sports. Decent coach and executive too.

Bo was the perfect Al Davis player. He was a threat to score at the opponents 1 yd line, or his own 1 yd line. Really liked his Raider days, shame what happened.
I've liked Deion since his FSU days. Attitude never bothered me. He talked it and walked it.
Give me either in their prime and I'll be a happy GM or Coach.

Love the 81 Topps update Ainge. Funny at the time I expected he would become a great baseball player.
Dave Winfield was drafted by 3 professional sports teams (baseball, basketball, football)
Actually four, both NBA and ABA.
My personal favorite is that Tom Glavine was drafted by the Kings five rounds before Luc Robitaille.
brady, elway, wilson & bird all played college baseball and/or got drafted.
considering the expos drafted brady, i'd love to see him go be a closer for the nationals for a game or two once football is officially over.
Bo because of his mystic, fireworks at any moment. Deion just only glowed, hence his Neon moniker. Plus because I have some great cards of Bo.
