I would be interested in seeing how that works as I am confused about the forms too.

    I have one.
I sent a coin out last week thinking it was a variety attribution, even paid for the variety attribution but the coin was really a error coin. Will PCGS fix this on their own or will I have to step in? Tried calling them today, no answer or no call back. Thank you. ;)
Are error coins and variety attributions the same fee?

Go to Account at the PCGS Log in. Click on Account. Scroll down on the Left to Submission Forms. Click on Submission Forms and you will see under Coins - Submission Guide. Follow the directions. Any further questions call Customer Service.
    Good luck.

    Timely thread.

I have a token that wasn't submitted because it did not show in their system.

Thanks to all. PCGS just talked with me on the phone. They actually DID call me back. Problem is now taken care of. I found out, the error coin submission is more of a charge than the variety attribution fee. Also, there needs to be a separate form made on all error coins as to regular coins or varieties. ;)

Thanks for the replies ... I have called them several times (like 4) and each
time they send a link and tell me to follow directions. I can't really figure
out exactly what to do, because I have US gold coins and foreign gold coins.
I have downloaded their submission forms, and get no help .....
I just cannot figure it out, and can't really get any help from their customer
service. Been trying to get help for almost a year now ...... disappointed in
their customer service. I am thinking about going to another grading service
    for my coins .....

You need two forms, and they are different forms now. One for the US Gold Coins and another for the foreign gold coins.

What part of the form is giving you trouble?

us gold coins is a start.

can you provide a date, mint mark and denomination list? are they circulated or uncirculated?

I have downloaded both forms / US & World
I have approx. 18 to send in ....
First I will have to join, and I figure since I have 18 to send in, the
Platinum membership will be my best bet, because you get 8
free submission. (would that be smart to do?)

I have the following to submit:
    US - 1 $20 gold piece
US - 3 California gold fractionals
    US - 3 Colonial
World - 10 British sovereigns (gold)
    World - 1 Austria 100 Corona

Thanks for everyone's help & advice,

It does make sense to coin at platinum level as the cost of the membership is less than the cost of submitting 8 coins.
You also get a Polo Shirt with the membership.

I'd pass on advertising that I submit coins due to making oneself a target. skip the shirt.

anyway, I can see why you are having trouble.

the california gold are going on 1 form and the $20 gold on a separate form. the colonials might could go on the same form as the cal. gold. it depends upon value of the items.

if these are common date and not so special grade $20, Sovs and C100 coins then you could probably save the money on grading them. this is why I'm asking about date, mint mark, denomination & circulated/uncirculated for everything. It's not prying, but trying to save you from submitting stuff that does not benefit from the added grading expense.

He can mix the coins on the voucher form. The voucher is now electronic you will need to get the number from your membership profile and write it on the form.

    oh. ok.

we'd still need to figure out what is worth grading so the right number of vouchers can be determined.

I would like to have all the gold coins graded, as most all
are in very good condition with little to minimal wear as
are the California gold fractionals ....
The British sovereigns vary from 1907 - 1925
    Austrian 100 Corona is 1915
    US $20 is 1893 ....
    California fractionals: $1.00 1858 & 1860 / 1/2 dollar 1871

Anything our hosts can do to simplify the submission process would be a welcome development for me. I would submit more often if the process for filling out the forms and the shipping wasn’t such a pain. I know you can’t help the shipping part but anything on your end would surely help business.

as far as joining PCGS for submissions -

    lowest level is $69
next level is $149 with 4 vouchers - $20 per voucher
top level is $249 with 8 vouchers - $22.50 per voucher

keep in mind the if you submit just 4 coins it'd be $20 from the voucher and $69/4 = 17.25 per coin for membership.

there is also a $10 handling fee per order. the there is the cost of shipping plus insurance to them and back. the boost in value needs to make up for the grading costs.

on top of that, the maximum coin value for each voucher is $2500, higher values must pay the going rates.

When paying the going rates, different service levels (section 6) mean separate orders.

the colonials are still a mystery. these can sell ungraded with good pictures. however, condition is a factor in value and plays a role in the grading decision. better condition coins can benefit from grading. actually, this applies to the cal gold, too.

we have not seen the coins. we're still flying blind.

as far as the 1893 $20, looking at the prices realized at auction, uncirculated coins would definitely benefit from grading. however, uncirculated coins seem to sell for more than the $2500 voucher limit. the circulated grades seem to go in the low $2000's and circulated ones could sell without grading.

I'm not up on cal gold. these would benefit from a cal gold expert. there are round ones and octagonal ones. the designs vary. the values will vary. this is another instance where condition is everything. also, I'm really hoping these aren't tribute tokens and are true cal gold.

once we get the usa side set you can ask on the world coin forum about the sovereigns & the 100 coronas and if they are worth grading.

both of the usa side and world side would now benefit from pictures.

    FORMS:
    1. your welcome package will have your member number
    3. the big bonus for you with gold shield is getting a professional pic of the coin, cost $5 per coin. ( https://www.pcgs.com/goldshield) Gold shield offers future coin identification if stolen and helps pcgs identify counterfeits.
    4. holder genuine coins
    5. grading
    6. "other" and put your voucher number. otherwise, if you must pay without vouchers you're looking at $30 per or 65 per depending upon value. how to determine value? well... approx value is determined previously when deciding to grade or not grade. you get an idea of value there. you'll need that number later. "what's to keep people from lying." Event of loss the payout would be what value you declare later on the form. $300 for a 1893 $20 is an obvious lie and would be too little money if lost.
    7. put the quantity, coin number you do not have to have, "first strike" does not apply - "true view" for $5 per is just the picture and none of that anti-stolen anti-counterfeit stuff - variety attribution may apply: more info on the coins are needed. some varieties of coins -- like the 1909 VDB cents are recognized by pcgs and need no extra fee - some colonials may have a variety but if it is not listed on the holder then it may be ok with good pictures. - "oversized holder" - the regular holder can hold the $20 and C100. The largest coin I've seen in a regular holder is the american silver eagle. ** after those checkboxes are skippable columns EXCEPT FOR THE VALUE. here it is again. you have to estimate what each value is. it's always a debate. "what grade and thus what value will it be?" when looking at auction results and the coin's condition your best guess it.
    8. some people have fedex and ups accounts they use for return shipping
    9. if you are paying the going rate, put the service level fee and number of coins. for vouchers there is the voucher line. "total add on fees" is the total fees from those check boxes in number 7 -- there is a chart for the return shipping fees . this is also where the total value of the coins is important because that is the amount of insurance they'll use. - if you are signing up for membership at the same time as you submit the order: g to the top of the order and select the membership level and then you can skip the member number in box number 1.
    10. I've paid by Credit Card in the past. I see they also take checks.
    11. always sign and date your forms. Also, do not forget to keep copies of your forms.

    .

after all is said and done, we could help more if you could post straight on, well lit photos of both sides of each.
