Incoming Franklin Half... what do ya think?

Took a flyer on a $30 proof set.
Figured I can always send it back out into the wild at melt.
The penny worried me that something maybe amiss. The rim on the Half looks problematic. Water damage?
Thinking Ol' Ben could be a monster.

From that picture you can tell anything? Way better then I am....
It depends what you consider a monster. I have seen that darker purple speckling when there is a break in the proof cellophane. The mirrors become cloudy and I consider it neutral to negative toning, although there is alot of color.
Looks like an underwater salvage job.

I have one very similar to that, still in the mint cellophane with that same coloration. It has some pinholes in the cellophane and the seal that keeps the coins away from each other opened up too and I think either the cent or the dime slid down and is touching another coin.

I humbly disagree, yet only by a bit.
The type of photograph, the lighting, and the appearance allows a seasoned collector an opportunity to "interpret" the photo and come up with an educated opinion based on all the factors. It doesn't mean the collector will be right! And thus my "only by a bit" with a disagreement.
It appears that the image may well be an attractive reddish-golden hue that with proof surfaces should be pretty. Certainly, at just a little over melt, the OP did well.
I am looking forward to better photos when it arrives.
Over the years I have seen many OGP 1962 flat pack proof sets that contain half dollars that have the color and the look of the coin pictured in this thread.
On occasion I have seen similar looking half dollars in OGP proof sets from 1963 and 1964. From 1955 through 1961 these types of half dollars rarely, if ever, show up in OGP flat pack sets.
Thing is, I am closer to Ricko in terms of color... haha

During Covid, my interests have been limited financially.
I buy a bit on Ebay and send in a few coins each month.
Sell something to cover the costs.
Much of my interest has shifted to moderns, and I love proof sets.
No real value, yet subtle, and produce beauty.
Profit is secondary, but some of these coins need to be saved.
It is hard to find something NT'd in the sea of AT experts.
Even in the lowly 1960's proof sets are victims.
Just matching obvious signs of seller, their images, condition of surrounding coins etc... took a shot.

Agreed. Most of the ones I have seen are 1962. They can vary in hue from pumpkin orange to pinkish magenta to sunset/orange/electric pinkish blue.
Some are stunning; many are not and mistt are in between.
The quarter in the set is sometimes similar, but not often the dime. I wonder why?
From my experience it is 15-1 1962 vs. 1963.
I have not seen a 64 Kennedy with these colors in an original set.

Nice gamble but not a fan. The corrosion spot was the first issue but there is so much more to dislike.
It certainly looks different and that alone might be reason enough to keep it. Then if silver gets high enough you can put it out of its misery.
I just lost my appetite looking at that....thing.
But maybe that is a good thing, I could stand to drop a few pounds.

Still doesn't represent the coin. It is highly mirrored thru the Orange/red. Not nearly as powdery (lack of better descriptive term)

Thats not what I'm saying, TV's are glamor shots and it hides all the spotting that the coin has, its great that you like it but if I received that coin after buying it from that TV alone I would be a very unhappy buyer.
