I stopped collecting and I don't really think I want to grad it yet. Maybe one day....lol.

I was kind of shocked to have pulled the gold #8/50 and then a month later I pulled the black 8/67.

Who would of thought that it's the same #8.

i'm partial to the indys though. think i'm up to 14. haven't sent any of my sotos in really either. sent in a few (4) i think and wasnt too thrilled w the grades. think i'm gonna wait a while too. in no rush and the fact the pop report stays low only helps existing sales skyrocket! 😉

actually, i lied. i did send in a couple hundred of these. it's his 1st actual card ever. such a better pic than his 1st b chrome and extremely hard to gem w the black paper corners.

long gone are the days of scooping up 100ct lots for $30.

Question: Which grading company do you prefer? I know a lot of people say BGS or PSA because they are well known and "trust worthy".

But I see that there's a new grading company call HGA. What do you think about them?

the '2020 sapphire superfractor. same box was a yordan auto red /5. sold the yordan!

obviously prefer psa. wouldn't ever consider bgs. hearing decent things about csg, i think! in the midst of doing my homework on them. waiting for more vintage cards to come to market to assess grading standards though.

as for hga, i think that will be for the more modern market BUT i do like the option of picking the flip color to match the card. i think it's a really big draw. cards are about eye appeal, matching flips could go a very long way. trying to determine if that would override my ocd w conformity though.

not knocking it, because it's an amazing card. so i don't wanna give ya the wrong impression. but yes, the top left corner is pretty soft along w some chipping on the top border. bottom left looks a tad soft but just could be the pic. knowing that it's soto and that they seem a tad harsher on grades and bigger names, i'd venture to say psa 8 on an average day.

as for value, there's a psa 10 for sale sitting at $7700. pretty pricey it seems, but it's gotten crazy in soto land lately. so raw, i'd prolly say $1250 and graded as an 8, maybe $1750. and i try to be conservative vs over inflate even w him being my guy.

I bought some update blasters and did pull a few RCs; was not lucky enough to pull an auto but did pick one up in 2019 from "Now."

Just curious why you haven’t graded all of those Soto’s? I’m grading all of my PC stuff that I can afford because as we have seen grading prices are getting ridiculous. Wish I had graded all of my Soto and Acuña stuff in 2018 when you could bulk sub for $8/card. I usually send in cards I plan to sell and then add 2 or 3 of my personal cards in the sub. Which from what I have seen on the boards you have about 10,000 cards at PSA right now! So I guess I don’t need to give you subbing advice 😂

I didn’t mean get them graded to sell. I knew you were keeping them in your own collection. I just meant get them graded so they would be preserved in a slab. For my personal cards I would rather go ahead and get them graded now because who knows what it would cost to grade them 10 or 20 years from now. That’s why I say I wish I had sent all of my 2018 cards to be graded in 2018 when I bought them.

I thought I'd show you what "real" dumb luck can get when collecting for over 30 yrs.

The Oscar was picked up @ Greg Manning Auctions back around 1993 - note the cert # - for $400 (centering wasn't as big a deal back then as it is now IMO); the West same for $550 (was not intending to win - it was the only bid) and the Baylor @ Rotman Auctions for 30 bucks - sub'ed to PSA and got a 9! These cards have gone nuts on eBay.

The 1994 Greg Manning Auction @ the National is a fun story to tell. If I ever find the receipt from that auction? I'd like to highlight how to piss of your wife with one phone call from Steve Novella who used to work for them back in the 90s.
